I have been looking for a part for a favorite rifle for some time. I thought I would see if I could find a well used one . I cant beleive the prices . There is one on GB for 1200 and the one I have is better. I run across several with no rifleing and they are asking $3 to400 I have a trash barrel that would bring $200 by those prices

What part are you looking for? Many people believe because the gun is old, a single shot, or has an odd type of action they are worth far more than they really are. It doesn't matter if it is worn out or has missing parts. I routinely see decent prices in Gun Digest (used to be Gun List) you can buy one at your local book store. Look in the Pack and Postal Center ad.

Tell me what part you need.

Not sure if you know this, but Savage is still making the Favorite.
You can get one here for less than $300 new:

The new Stevens favorite has one change that bugs me, the hammer. The hammer is injection molded and has depressions on either side that look like dirt traps to me. I don't know why they chose to make them that way, probably a cost cutting measure to save machining, but it isn't appealing to me. One of the gun magazines had an article on making it a take down. That caused me to dream of making a switch barrel with chamberings for the various rim fires. It is offered in 22 magnum.

I have one of the new favorits for several years now and it is a fine plinker but not much more. It is too light for any serious target shooting and again due to weight it is not the most accurate 22s I own but it is a fun plinker and short range small game getter all the same.

Let us know what parts you're looking for. I've got a box full of various Stevens receivers and parts. Maybe I've got what you're missing.

Wisner's has new extractors but they will need to be fitted to the gun. They are not machined for the chamber and rim cut and there are a few stiles to chose from. http://www.wisnersinc.com/rifles/stevens/singleshotlever.html
Other parts I make as needed. The Favorite is not a strong action and will not handle much in the way of a center fire, a 32 S&W short would probably max it out. I did see one chambered for the 32-20 and that was scary, I would not shoot it. A 22 hornet would also be to much pressure but cutting off the brass and making a short 25 caliber BP wild cat might be fun.

They did chamber it in a 25-20 I was wanting to use it as a 25acp. but would need a breach block to change the angle of firing pin. I found that a 25acp does have a rim and will work

I don't believe they chambered it in .25-20! They did chamber it in .25 Stevens rimfire though. A 297 Morris would work in a Favorite. That was the Bristish .22 trainer, and the World's first .22 centerfire, with ballistics and pressures less than a .22 LR. Cases are easily formed from .22 Hornet, but only about as long as a .22LR.
I had a Martini in this caliber and it was a hoot!-Vall

PS- No PM came my way, but I'll check my parts for the extractor.

pm sent where would you find a 297 Morris?

The 25 Auto should work in a 25 RF barrel as both were .251, or were supposed to be. I had my eye on a Stevens Marksman in 25 RF with a perfect barrel, but I intended to make 25 CF brass from Hornet and change the RF to CF. Lotsa moulds that could be sized down for that one.

There are several sources for Favorite parts. Just keep Googling and you'll find them.

On the new production Favorites, I saw an article on the web some place where a guy filled in those depressions with epoxy or JB Weld or something. Looked fine when he got done. I detest that hammer, just like all the new toilets with the non-smooth sides to the base they trap dirt and are hard to keep clean.

Do you mean the brass or the gun? Wont be easy to find the guns, as they are super rare, but any .22 barrel can be chambered in the .297 Morris, and brass can be purchased from Buffalo Arms, along with CH4D dies for the same in either the 297 short or 297 long. I've still got 50 rounds of new brass here, as I always thought I might build up a gun in this neat little caliber.

does anyone have a breach block they would part with? I tried a 25acp in the 25stevens barrel and the fireing pin will hit side of primer. So dont look like it would be hard to rework it to hit in center rick
