IMR's website shows some Trailboss loads for 45-70.
Has anyone used this powder in a 45-70?
I'm thinking of a 405g cast boolit in an original Trapdoor.
Your thoughts please.

I use Trail Boss in my .45-70's now and then. Seems to be accurate enough, and _very_ soft recoiling.
You might find this link interesting. A couple of the targets were shot with Trail Boss loads.

Is the 12-13 g. load suitable for a Trapdoor's limited strength?

Good morning fellow Bangers!
I'm a huge TrailBoss fan; using it a lot. I personally believe it's a great powder for 45-70, 45-120, 50-70 just to name a few. One load for 45-70s I really like is 13.0 gns TB, pushing a 300 gn Saeco bullet. The load averages 1140 fps; and is safe in all my Trapdoors, as well as Sharps. Your results may vary; as I do all my shooting above 6800 feet, atop a mountain west of Trinidad.

Thanks to all for the great information.
I've got a bunch of Trailboss, just got some LR primers and 405g cast boolits, and I'm looking forward to trying them out.
