I'm trying to find any information on a gunsmith named Reed (or maybe Reid?) Thacker who may have worked in the Pocatello, Idaho area in the '50s and '60s.
Thacker built up my father's main hunting rifle around 1963 using a Remington '03-A3 barreled action that my grandfather bought from the DCM. I've never been able to discover anything at all about Thacker and would love to hear from anyone who knows anything about him.
My dad handed down his sporterized '03-A3 to me a few years ago and it was the rifle I first shot a cast load in. It does very well with Lyman #311332 and the RCBS 180 grain flat point bullet. In addition to it being dad's rifle, it's also special because it's one of four that my grandpa had Thacker build for him using DCM barreled actions, one for his three boys and one for himself.
Anyhow, if anyone knows anything about Reed Thacker, I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks,
Mike
