Dave:

I notice you are from Alamogordo.

Is your family the namesake of Beeman Canyon just east of town?
I have worked in those rocks for the last 30 years ! :)

GLL,
I don't know of any of my direct ancestors who were in this neck of the woods. I am originally from NE Oregon, and that is where most of my family is, I do have a couple of distant relatives in West Virginia, and long ago had a great Aunt who lived in Concord Ca.

RVPilot,
It is the 462420 PB bullet, it drops from the mould at 415grs with straight wheel weights.

Should mention that this bullet shoots great, I had several where 1st 2 shots were touching, and then I would pull the 3rd. I am going to play around with the load, and I will try it with 5744, and likely some Unique as well. This should perform nicely if I ever find some feral hogs up in the mountains here, or if I ever draw another rifle tag for deer or elk. I am thinking I may have found the "one" bullet for my Marlin 1895GS.

The bullet is a 462420 from a group buy at this site, lubed with NASA lube from the Bullshop (good friend and contributor here), Winchester cases and primers, 38grs of IMR 4198. I was shooting them in my Marlin 1895GS, the stainless non-ported version of their Guide Gun. I have no idea what the velocity is, the chronograph I had access to is in a thousand pieces at the range where I shoot, thanks to a magnum. I am going to load some of these up with 39grs of IMR4198, and I am going to try some 5744 as well. I know some like to shoot a heavier bullet, some like them a little lighter, I find the 400-430 grain area to be just about perfect, elk are the biggest critters I hunt, and this weight is perfect to me, it has a meplat of .332, a nice looking ogive, and feeds like a dream in the Marlin. I will not be able to shoot this bullet in my Ruger #1, it has such a short throat, and this bullet will not accommodate that unless I seat it deeper than the crimp groove, no great loss as the #1 may end up part of my herd thinning this summer.
