What powders do you like for mid-range 41 mag loads? I use 2400 for most of my high end loads and 231 or Unique for low power loads. But what about mid level loads, 1200-1300 or so fps? I'm using the RCBS 41-210 gr bullet and I'd like to stay with something that I can use standard primers with. The gun is my Ruger Bisley Blackhawk with a 7.5" bbl. Anyone use Longshot? IMR 4756? HS6? Others?
Thanks in advance.

I use Universal in 357 cal and up. Clean burning and the burn rate is nearly identical to Unique. If it needs to go faster then there's 2400, etc. Mid level to me is 900-1100.

I use a lot of Unique in mine close to 1100 fps. I've wondered myself about Longshot, I like it much for slug, heavy shot loads and it is fantastic in the 45acp with 230 grain plus p loads, clean accurate and powerful with seemingly low pressure. Only thing that keeps me from trying it in other things is the price.

Funny you should ask....as my current .41 is that exact same Ruger (probably last as I really like this one). My standard load for 210 - 215 gr cast bullets including the RCBS 41-210-SWC is 9 gr of Unque in RP cases with a WLP or Fed 150 primer. Velocity runs right at 1200 fps with excellent accuracy. It also is a very good load for Lee's TL410-210-SWC. Using 11 gr of 4756 pushes either of them to 1300 fps which then impinges on "magnum" territory. As long as they make Unique I will continue using the 9 gr load with the 210 gr cast bullet.

Mine is a 41 Special, not a Maggie, but a real jewel of a powder for 3/4 throttle loads in the larger revolver rounds is Solo 1250. It might be hard to find, but boyyo is it worth the effort.

Solo 1000 and 1250 were originally made by Scot Brigadier Co (Scotland). Accurate Powder Co took over Scot, and recently Western Powder Co (Ramline) took over Accurate. The two Scot powders are among the few original Brigadier powders remaining in the line. They are both still imported from Scotland.

Both 1000 and 1250 are silver-black flake powders that measure very well and burn completely and cleanly. Scot 1000 is the faster, and can be thought of as a Bullseye/RedDot equivalent, while 1250 is in the Herco/BlueDot range. Both have handgun and shotgun uses.

Good morning When I started reloading on my own Unique was THE revolver powder. I have been using it ever since. I use others but by far I have shot MORE Unique in 41 mag than any other powder and probably will continue to do so.
With a 210 gr 7 grains will go about 950 fps. With 11 grains your going around 1350 fps.
That covers everything I need done with a 210 cast boolit. If I need more power I step up to 240 grains and one day I will have a 260+ mold to SMACK corn munchers and deranged LLamas with.

I have been shooting 41's since the late 70's and still think it's one of the most under-rated pistol hunting rounds available.

My favorite load for this seemingly "odd" caliber is 7.5 grains of Green Dot under a Lee 240 grain plain base SWC. It's accurate, cheap and pleasant to shoot.
