Stopped by Atlanta Cutlery and took a few pics of a BIRA gun they have on display.
This one is missing the external drive gear which is located just forward of the hand crank. Apparently ergonomics is not a new concept; unlike the Gardner (of which the BIRA is a copy ), the hand crank is turned counter-clockwise so that a pulling motion is used as opposed to pushing.
There is probably a pound or more of Nepalese soil in the receiver; I would like to examine one that has been cleaned up.
