Had to drive down to Worcester Mass. for a Dr.'s Appointment. Passed Kittery Trading Post. Since I got clean bill of health, on way back I treated myself to another gun - this one. I cogitated about the caliber, but of course it can be loaded to ballistics from .32 pistol on up to full-house. I have a TC Contender, but it hasn't got much play since I quit shooting metallic silhouettes, and I never had a scope for it on any barrel. Anyhow, here's some results with the new toy.
First thing is, its right-handed and I'm left handed. Not a big deal with the cast loads, but with Military ball 150 gr. it is right startling to shoot, and with my right hand the recoil made me really shaky even off the bench. 5 rounds was enough. I fired 2 220 gr. JSP factory equivalent loads, getting them 3" apart at 100 yards, and could not fire more - brutal recoil.
With the cast bullets it really shines. The 2 150 gr. designs are on the left, a Cramer 49A and a Modern-Bond A-311-910 (the latter a Loverin design). Then there is a trio of Lyman designs, 175 gr. 311291, 190 gr. 311334HP, 210 gr. 311290. I already had the 311334HP loaded up with 24 gr. Scot 4197, and for the others I reached back 55 years to when I started loading cast bullets for a good load for almost any CB, 16.5 gr. 4227 with WLRM primers.
Results for 5-shot groups were in the 1 1/8" to 2" group size at 50 yards and 2" to 3 1/4" at 100 yards - which I would be glad to see with any rifle. I have a genuine pocket rifle here. One interesting thing is that at 100 yards all groups were about to the same point of impact, not requiring any sight adjustment from CB's to Jacketed.
