My local gun shop has a 375 JDJ barrel for and encore sitting around for a long time. Have thought about picking it up I know I can pick up dies for it 357-444 marlin. And I have a 375 hp boolit mould. Anyone have any experance with the 375JDJ in a rifle??? Thanks Jeff:neutral:

Before I started casting, I had one in a Contender Carbine, a rechambered .375 Winchester barrel. It was very accurate, but man, that thing would whomp on both ends.

Should be much more manageable in an Encore.

If you check several sources you will find the 376 JDJ to be a virtual clone of the 9.5 X 56.7 M-S of 1908. Both the Contender and the M-S rifle operated at nearly the same pressures for these cartridges. My experience was with the M-S cartridge on deer and paper with the 270 grain Hornady SP. Very effective on deer at moderate ranges and stellar for accuracy in my m-700 rebarreled. BvT

I have one (.375 JDJ barrel) for my Contender Pistols. It is extremely accurate. A very powerful pistol and even MORE powerful in a rifle.

It does require someone who has a tolerance for recoil, particularly in a pistol.

I love my 375JDJ contender carbine. I use Lymans 375449gc with either 24gr 2400 or 38gr 3031, (IIRC) both moderate loads but very accurate and effective on deer. The 2400 load uses a soft bullet 2.5% each tin and ant., 95% Pb. I HP them with a Forster HP tool for deer hunting, and they expand well. With these loads, recoil is moderate. With the 3031 load recoil is stouter, but not too bad. You will like this caliber!

I've culled some does with the 375 JDJ, and had to pass some shots over 175 yards at some big bucks in Ky. It's not a long-range round, but it packs a whallop at the ranges it's intended for.

What do you think the effective range of the 375JDJ in a 26 " Rifle barrel is??

JD himself talks of 300 yard prarie dog shooting with this round from a 14-inch barrel, so for deer I would think that distance would be no problem. I'm sure that I'm nowhere near the marksman that JD is, but still...I think 250-300 yards with the right load AND the right bullet AND some practice would be no problem.

When I started the 9.5 work with jacketed I looked at 358 Winchester/250 grain bullets for info as the 9.5 was on the slightly bigger capacity 8 X 57 case. Just work up from midrange levels. I'm using 48 grains IMR 4064 with a Hornady 270 Grain spire point in a M700 action to duplicate the original velocity and weight.

Got to shoot the 375 JDJ last week end.. Loaded 24 gr of 2400 over a cast 250 gr hollow pont. Sized to 375. Shot well not to bad on the recoil side. Cronographed at a little over 1800 fps. Jeff

300 meters according to Moki with his .375 JDJ /260gr Accubond/Leupold B&C reticle set up... see link

I dont think the 260 Accubond would expand at 300 meters from a 375JDJ. They are designed to expand at 1800+ FPS and at 1800 they dont expand much

I quess the only way a guy would know for sure is to test them at a impact vel, of 1800fps at a closer range eh?
Or set your test media out at 300 yds. and test them with a full power load....
It would be interesting to see the results...
All this would be moot with cast as a cast boolit's BC would be way less than a Accubond....
But I digress...you could cast a soft nose boolit that would expand nicely at 300 yds. at a much lower vel. I would think...
Then there's PP...[smilie=1:
And so it it goes...

The 235 gr Factory load got about 2350 fps from my 23 " barrel . As far as I can tell the effective range would be the distance you can keep them on the critters vitals , A cast boolit in 375 is a big enough hole to get most things to expire fairly quick . I have tried most of the loads JDJ has on his website . I'm right now shootin' 30 grs of Benchmark with 1.47 cc of coffee grounds on the top of it with a 255 Lee with the bevel base removed for 1350 fps from a 15 ' barrel . It is a big case for IHMSA but its a lot of fun and shoots MOA . James[smilie=1:
