Bought an unfired SRH made in 2000 today and really need some loads to shoot out of the 45Colt cases until I can get moulds and brass ordered for it. What load do you guys recommend in the shorter Colt case? I have some Cowboy loads but would like to test it a little. I have some 7625, 4756, 2400, Unique, Red Dot and several other common powders and a Lyman 255gr 452664 mould now.

How anyone would own a gun since 2000 and not fire it escapes me.

10 grains of Unique, any LP primer and that Lyman should work fine for plinkers, it would kill a deer just fine.
I've got a brand new Rem 700 338, brand new Kimber 8400 300 WSM, and a Weatherby Ultra Lite 30-06 all scoped, boresighted and starting loads worked up unfired, all 4 years old, so it can happen. I'll get to it someday.
Took me 2 years to fire my Ruger Flatop 44 Anniversary.[smilie=1:
Good Luck
Oh, and as far as a mould, try the Lee 452-300RFGC, shoots good in mine behind LilGun and Federal 205's, I much prefer Federals in the Casull case, IMO CCI are too hard, I have also done well with WSR's and WW269 as well. However I think you could probably do real well with the 2400 as well, although I have never used it.

I guess 10Gr Unique will work for anything. I wanted to heat it as hot or hotter than 44mag velocities just to try it but didn't know if you could from the shorter case.

Heavens yes, it'll run hot loads just fine with good Colt Brass. Look at any data for the 45 Colt out of the Ruger and the 2400. My SRH doesn't like light boolits very well, but I've shot a lot of the Lee boolit at 10 grains of Unique and like the Lil Gun as my heavy powder. I regularly load the RCBS270SAA with 10 grains of Unique out of my Ruger 45's and have a load with 19 grains of 296 using a 360 grain WLNGC that I shoot out of the Blackhawks with Colt brass as well.
FYI, the 10 grains of Unique with the 317 grain Lee gas check out of Casull brass cronographs about 1100 out of my SRH. It'll punch right through deer as is right pleasant to shoot.

Ok, guess I'll load some up tomorrow and give it a test. That's probably not too much for the Vaquero either?

If you are talking the older full size Vaquero, no it's built like a tank, it is a Blackhawk. As far as the New Vaquero (smaller frame that was brought about in the last year or so) I can't attest to that one.
Good Shootin
