I am working on my SKS load again. When I first got the Lee 155 2R GC mold, I bought a .311 Lee sizing die as well. The mold drops .313 water dropped boolits. When I use the .311 die to seat the GC, it leaves them .3112. I went out and cast a couple pure lead boolits today and just slugged the barrel. I know, should have done this a while ago. It is .312. Now my question: Midway has a .314 Lee sizer, is this OK to use to seat my GC even though it won't touch the boolit itself? I do not have a lube/sizer yet or I would have more options. Also, will this stretch the neck when seating and make the boolit loose?

The .314" die should seat the GC all right and that combo should shoot all right if it will chamber. Try one first. The 7.62 X 39 is pretty forgiving. You shouldn't have loose bullets with that setup if the expander is the correct size. In fact, it may swage down the .313" bullet a bit based on my experience in seating .311" bullets in the .30 Carbine case.

Those chambers were cut to milspecs and are usually loose as a goose and I'm betting it will chamber but try one first and be sure./beagle

Works for me. The thou difference between the GC and the body of the bullet doesn't make a noticeable difference tension and seems to give a little better seal in the barrel.

Your other option is to lap your .311 sizer to .313. Coat some cull bullets with fine valve grinding compound and run them through several times. 4-5 bullets run through until they go through without resistance opens up a sizer .0015 to .002 for me.

That is cheaper than ordering a new sizer, and much faster. I'll try it. I have no other use for the .311 sizer anyway. My 30-06 slugs at .3075 and I've been using my .308 sizer. I might try opening that up another .0005 as well.

All done! .313 and .3085. Plan to hit the range tomorrow and see they do. The 30-06 boolit is a Lee 180gr 1R GC.
