Have a Win 1885 45-70 Sporter coming from Davidson's and want to use Burris signature rings. What would be the best bases for mounting a scope. The barrel is a 24 inch octagon.

When I put a scope on my Browning 1885, the only base/ring combo I could find was Leupold. I'm very happy with them.

I have been looking to mount a scope on my Cimarron 40 65.
Does anyone make a Weaver base that mounts in the rear sight dovetail.
That way I would only have to D&T for one base just in front of the receiver.
I have a really nice old Weaver V 9 scope that would look cool on this rifle.
Are the Winchesters drilled and tapped for scope bases?

I have a brand new set laying around here some where. If you are interested in them then send me a PM. Tom.

I didn't get a reply for a while so I ordered a set of weavers. If the weaver set doesn't work I'll give a leupold or burris set a try.Late model wins and brownings are drilled and tapped. The reason I went with weavers is I'm hoping I can leave the rear sight on.

45r, the Weaver set that you want is #11 for the rear and #29 for the front. these are what I have on my 1885 Browning and Winchesters.

That is a great looking set up for your rifle in that picture Doc.Those are the #'s I ordered.I think I'm going to put signature Zee rings on mine. Are yours warne rings.I've got a RCBS 300GC mold and 300 grain sierra condum bullets coming also.I'm thinking the pac pad on my sporter should help with 45-70 recoil and the 24 inch barrel seems short on the SS action. The trigger adjusted down to a pretty good pull and the quality looks great also. Can't hardly wait to see how good it shoots.Probably get a heavier boolit mold when I can figure out which one to get.Think I'm going to like single shot falling blocks a lot.

45r, I am not shure what rings they are I have so many. The scope is a old Redfield 3200 that I am switching between several highwalls. The one in the picture is a 30-30 win and I also use it on a 38-55 the most. Because both rifles have the same scope blocks it takes very little to change from one rifle to another.

I got a set of weavers in and they don't work, front base is way to short.Have to get a redfield set I'm guessing. If that don't work guess I'll have to get a soule sight.

Got some burris bases on the 1885 and they fit and are level.Put some burris signature rings on with 10+ MOA elevation also.Had to remove the rear sight but should have done this in the beginning.Put a 3x12 Monarch on also but the large bell in back makes for a snug fit pulling back the hammer, might need to go with a fixed power and long ring spacing for more room.Cast up a couple hundred RCBS 300GC's and sized .459 ready to go.Wish it would quit raining so I can try them out.Probably start out with around 33 grains 5744 after a few 300 grain sierra's over 40 grains RL-7 to break in the barrel.Hope my experiences so far might help others scoping a Win 1885.Any suggestions from others on what works well handloading their 45-70 1885's are appreciated.
