I have had a box of cast 44 mag boolits laying around for a few years that I was going to use to reload for my friends 44 mag but he sold it and I have been stuck with them. now that I am starting to cast I plan on remelting them. should I try to clean the lube off of them or just melt them like they are.

You can melt them as they are, just don't do it indoors.

I just toss mine back into my casting pot. Try a couple and see if they smoke alot.

A large qty of them will make quite a bit of smoke, but if you toss in 3-4 at a time when you refill the pot you will not fog yourself out of the shop :-). I generally toss stuff like that in while smelting outside.

if you got a bunch of them and just dump them in, and they have the commercial wax lube on them. you will have a thick black layer of burnt wax on top of your pot for about a week.
i like to use old lubed boolits for fluxing my casting pot, i just stir the pot and drop a couple in while still stirring. it gets the flux to the bottom in a hurry, so be quick or it will pop right to the top.
