Hello All,
I have used the search (Hopefully Correctly) and I have not found a suitable answer. Links posted here are just as good as an Explanation.

Question.

I have 50lbs of Monotype.
I want to Mix WW's with Monotype to make an Alloy close to Lyman #2.

I have been to the LASC site and found Good Info but not exactly what I need.

TY for any Help.

You will need some pure lead to get to #2. Both Linotype and Monotype are much harder than #2.

Miscellaneous Lead/Antimony/Tin Mixtures

Monotype..........Type 1.....Type 2 *....Type 3 *....Type 4...........Average...........Bhn
...Lead (Pb)........79.0%.....74.0%.......72.0%........64. 0%...........73.0%
...Antimony (Sb).15.0%.....16.0%.......19.0%........24.0%..... ......17.5%
...Tin (Sn).............6.0%.....10.0%.........9.0%...... ..12.0%.............9.5%...........28
* Most common types--used for average

Linotype............Standard
...Lead (Pb)..........84.0%
...Antimony (Sb)...12.0%
...Tin (Sn)...............4.0%........................... .................................................. ...22

Crazy4nitro,
Assuming your Monotype is 19 / 9 and your w.w. are 2 1/2 / .3
then here's a way:
................antimony / tin
1# Monotype = 19 / 9
1# w.w..........= 2.5 /.3
1# w.w..........= 2.5 /.3
1# w.w..........= 2.5 /.3
1# w.w..........= 2.5 /.3
1# w.w..........= 2.5 /.3

total...............31.5 / 10.5
divided by 6 = 5.25 / 1.75
1# Mono + 5# w.w. = 5.25 / 1.75

Lyman NO 2 is 90/5/5 so at that ratio you are very close on the antimony but will need to add 3 1/4% more tin.

At a 1# Monotype + 3# w.w. the values would be 6.6 / 2.5 which should be very close to Lyman No. 2 in hardness.

I would mix 4/1 WW/Mono. That should give you dang near the equivalent of 'Hard Ball' alloy, which is 2/6/92 Sn/Sb/Pb, that I understand is to be the modern equivalent of the old Lyman #2.
