To those of you who shoot the 577 Enfield center fire cartridges, what is the rifling twist? I know originally they were built on converted muskets but what was the twist? Did they use the same twist later when building barrels for the 577 cartridge?

Also, if you were to build a new rifle for the 577, what twist would you use.

I am trying to justify gettting one of the collar button molds but need the rifle to fire them.

Thanks for the info.

The P53 Enfield riflemusket used a 1:72 twist. The P56 rifle used a 1:48 I think. Both were used for the Snyder conversion. If I were building one, I would use the 1:48 twist.

Yes go for the faster twist.

When I did the tests with Ricks Paradox Collar button mould it did best in the faster twist Sniders.

1 in 48 is good, for competition both with Sniders and muzzle loaders the 1 in 48s are the barrel choice of winners.
