So I would love a light plinker flatbase load for my 30-30 and 32 winchester special. I was looking at these for the 32 S&W family 311-100-2R

the 30-30 is obviously .309 ish for bore and the 32 should be .322ish. I was thinkning about casting up a thousand of the 311-100-2R as is then use polishing compound and a drill to expand the mould until it was .320ish.

Foolish or decent idea?

It is too much of a diameter change to simply polish. You would need a hard button made of something like drill stock to get the job done. I changed the diameter of one of my 311413s to .323 in this manner but it is not a "simple" project.

I won't call it foolish, just impractical. You'd be better off going to Mountain Molds or Old West and having a custom mould made. It'll cost a few bucks, but in the end you'll have something worth while. NEI or Rapine may have an in stock design, but the quality of both is iffy from what I understand.

The other alternative is to watch Ebay and the gun auction sites for the next few years hoping to find and win a boolit like you want. The custom route will be less expensive.

The concept of the lightweight FB'd plinker for both is excellent but the execution of polishing the mould out for the .32 would be difficult as mentioned. Also as mentioned better to leave the 311-100-2R as is and simply get another mould. A custom one or a Rapine would be where I'd look. I've several Rapine moulds and have not had a problem with quality.

i had very good luck takeing my lee 310 44 mold out to the proper diameter with some of the bullets it cast and some valve grinding compound.a sheetrock screw and variable speed drill. i just spun the coated bullet slow untill it went easy then swapped for a new bullet untill that one spun easy too then i cleaned the mold up and cast another 5 or 6 bullets and they were 1.5 thou.larger than orig.and then i spun the new bullets twice again and ended up with another 1.5 thou. thats where i stopped so i could size them back to 432.5 for my marlin worked good.and i figured what the heck,i still have the other cavity if i mess up
