Gentlemen: Here is what I have got for makeing Bump dies, For the K31s or for other 30 Cal. rifles, I have made dies like this, .300 for the bore ride. The 1 st. band I make to is .306, The rest of the bullet is .310 as this is what size I have sized and lub. the bullet to, This can be made smaller or larger,This dont have to touch the bullet. In a rifles throat the is .307 X .296 you still have to push the bolt handle hard to seat the bullet. but it dont push the bullet into the case, Anything larger then this its no pressure to seat or just a push to close the bolt, now, can you fellows tell me what size your bore and groove size is and would this die so far work in your rifles, Thanks for the help, About ready to start maching dies, Smokemjoe, you can email also at wiest4@juno.com

The bullet I would shoot is a Lyman 311407 which of course is a flatnose. Not sure how a bump die would work with that bullet. Any idea?

As long as the flatnose is smaller than .299", all it will change is the nose diameter, and a bit of the first driving band. In my particular K31, that first driving band needs to be .304-.305 in order to get the boolits out to the rifling, otherwise they're stopped by the .308 driving band hitting the start of the rifling, usually with the base below the neck/shoulder junction, which really doesn't hurt anything, but best accuracy is obtained with the base above it.

Thanks but I can wait until I get the cash right now I am working on loading 45 colt ammo. Probably will not do much shooting until May anyway when it warms up. I do have a some 284 brass to size for use in my K31. I got some ready to go now too. Give me a week or so to think about this to see how expense's go for the rest of the month. I may have the cash before the end of the month all depends on the buget.

All, I asked Joe if he'd make a bump die for my K-31's, specifically so that I could try the Saeco RG-4/#301 and a CBE #313-185*, whose nose is much too big for the almost nonexistent throats. It arrived today and is absolutely perfect in all respects, including the finish. I can now seat those long CB's just about at the neck/shoulder junction of my brass, have their noses engrave and not have to slam the bolt shut to chamber a round. Joe's workmanship is excellent and I'm very pleased with the die!

*These look like the old Ideal/Lyman #311290, but with a fatter (.304"), truncated cone tip. Even when sized to .309" for my K-31's, the nose wouldn't allow chambering unless the bullet was seated very deeply in the case. The bump die solved the problem!

Thanks for the report I had no doubts that it was a good idea which is why I plan to order one the first of the month or sooner depending on the budget. Too early in the month yet to see what else comes up. :)
