I have a custom 7X57 Mauser

Is there any difference between this and a 7mm Mauser

I do not think so.

My Question is what countries used this model?

There is no difference. The military version may have sloppier chambers and a wide variation in groove diameters.

Most the South American countries, Mexico, not sure about the Central American countries. Argentine went with the 7.65x54 Mauser. Most the European countries didn't. There are probably some countries I'm certain I missed and that other poster will point out.

Glancing through Ball's Mauser book, Spain, Chile, Mexico, Brazil, China (!), Columbia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Serbia, Siam, Uruguay, Venezuela, and those pesky Boers of the Orange Free State.

Rocklock:

The Mauser 57 MM case has been formed to everything from 5.56X57 (RWS) to the 9.3X57. My upper limit for a 98 is about 50Kpsi. I think the actual case head diameter .473" and case head was not Mauser but came from an early Portuguese cartridge. If you blow the 7X57 out to Ackley it runs real close to the 280 Rem. In a strong modern bolt gun loaded to 06 pressures it is definitly no slouch. Necked down to 6MM Rem it becomes a real HIGH velocity cartridge. All in all not bad for a cartridge and case that is well over 100 years old.

................I think the 7x57 is possibly one of the most well balanced cartridges around.

7x57 is one of the truly classic catridges around. Usually under loaded, always under estimated, usually accurate, always adequite for 99% of what the average guy hunts.

Not a one of us will still be performing like the 7x57 when we get to be its age. A most unappreciated round by Americans generally, and that's a shame. Possibly the best of all the mauser cartridges.

Thanks to all, I love mine

My rifle is a custom given to me by my Grandfather, he spent alot of money on guns but did not shoot them, I am just the opposite.

How about the rest of you?

I have a Ruger 77 semi-custom sporter in 7x57. It is one of my favorite possessions. A truly nice rifle.

Loaded properly, I would take on anything in the United States with mine. Heck, "Karamojo" Bell took elephants with his 7mm (I'm not quite THAT brave, but he was).

I'm the opposite, too.

I get quite a kick (pun intended) shooting my old $75 Nagants, Carcanos, Enfields, and Mausers.

Have one, sporterized, 98 mauser action, 21 inches barrel.
7x57s from offshore are a bit hotter than those loaded in US. I had some LAPUA rounds - 170 gr. bullets, chronographed from my rifle - 2560 fps., no signs of undue hi pressures. Essencially a hunting rifle, gives me very consistent 1.5" groups @ 100 yds. Perhaps because I was born at the first half of last century, I handload exclusively with Hornady 175 gr. spitzers at a very classical 2450 fps. Spitzers make a remarkable difference in trajectory.
For fun and informal target shooting, Cast 160 gr. bullets at 2200 fps are equally accurate.
Enjoy yours!

I have a 7x57 built on a Mexican small ring 1936 action with a Douglas barrel, and English Walnut stock by a wonderful gunsmith in El Paso. My favorite rifle. Don't feel a need for any other as long as I'm not going after grizzly.

My 7 X 57 is a sporterized 1895 Chilean Mauser. It is very accurate with the Lyman 287308 and a variety of jacketed bullets.
