I recently bought a firearm which was mailed to me (the FFL on my end) and which required an FFL transfer document. The gun shop I contacted for that charged me $45.00 plus WA state tax for the "service"...
How much are you all (around the country) paying for this?? I thought $45.00 was excessive but maybe I'm just not up with the times

thanks

Go to the dealer search on GunBroker.com (http://www.gunbroker.com/User/DealerNetwork.asp) to find a FFL willing to do transfers in your area.

Our local guy charges $20, or $10 to regular customers. Then there is the reciever on the other end, who knows? Plus shipping, of course. UPS required one firearm per container, so no discount for mulitples.

You guys are lucky. Here on the left coast, if you don’t buy the gun from the FFL, the fees double.:( I would get an FFL here, but they want you to have a store front in a commercial aria. [smilie=b:Where I live its all Ag land. The only thing that’s good about this aria is, this aria is one of the last that you can shoot with out a range permit. And carry on a horse. Which really trips out the Flat Landers and Land Barrens, from the Valley!!!:-D:-D:-D

My favorite FFL charges me $20, unless I am buying a gun from him at the same time. Which is how it usually works out.

$25.00 plus sales tax...

no sales tax...the store only did the transfer, not the sale.......

party a paid party b....the store is only doing the background check, not the "sale"

don't let anyone pull that one on you....

i think i would go edit that statement....it is not within the law for most firearms to be sent directly to a non-ffl buyer
delete this thread......

Most guys in my area are charging $20-$30, I found one who charges $10 for incoming and doesn't charge for outgoing. My experience is that storefront gunshops are all $30-$50 range locally. I'm usually quite happy to support the local shops when they have what I want and I won't go elsewhere just to save a couple bucks, but I don't recommend using them for transfers.

There's a guy here who runs a shop out of his garage, charges $18. My favorite shop charges $25 but owes me one or two. No tax on a service.

There are gun shops and gun dealer shops around here. The paper work fee ranges from a flat $20 to $50 plus tax plus call-in fee (read as rip off).

Technically, in Michigan any sale consumated in the state requires the FFL holder to collect sales tax on the purchase price. I'm not sure if the transfer of the firearm is considered consumation of the sale here. The fellow I use is fair and helpful, maybe that is why I buy as much from him as I can. If he has what I need in stock, I buy from him. If he can get it at a fair price, within a few days, I buy from him. We need these small shops that "serve" their customers.

In Raton, New Mexico (only 20 miles south of Trinidad, CO) Elite Sporting Goods was allowing several transfers a month free; if you purchased anything from them. That is until recently. They now charge $20.00 per gun. Here in Trinidad, a local pawn shop charges $30; which seems to be the norm for the immediate area.

I am paying $15.00 per gun for incoming here in MN. My usual FFL runs his business from home, not a store front.

$20 to $30 here in WV on average. Some of the bigger sporting good stores charge more if they will do it all. They act like it's a real hassle. I think they want you to buy their over-priced, in-stock items.

$20 and no tax as this is not a in-stock item. Most of the time the gun is in store for less than a hour.

I have a local shop that charges me $10.00, but I do a lot of business with him and have helped him out several times. Sone places around here want $50 or 10 percent of the price, whichever is higher. They say they are losing a sale if you don't buy from them. I wouldn't buy from them anyway.

My local guy charges $25. I recently ordered 4 old military rifles, total FFL cost for the 4, $25. He said he could do up to 4 guns on one paper, so no extra charge. I also buy all of my guns from him, he is fair on his pricing and willing to help any way he can. Support the local guys, they will help you out in a pinch. Try getting any real help on a purchase from Wally World. You can't even get a straight answer most of the time, and definitely not an intelligent one.

My favorite Fun Shop only charges $10 over cost for all firearms, If I buy on one of the auction sites he charges me the same $10 for the transfer. When I asked if he minded he told me "I still make my $10 and you do all the leg work, why would I mind that?"

Usps will ship hand guns if you have a ffl on file . I ship that way but only to a ffl. I charge $20 to send and $10 to receive. That is fair price when you think about how much you have to do to have the FFL. Its $90 for 3 years try to get a new one now. If you slapped your wife and a cop was called , forget it. 2nd DUI forget it . Did you see a VA nut Dr forget it. It can be who you know or who knows you. Did you inhale? Is a carefull life so dont get to hard on the ffl s I have had one since 1979 and no problems but you got to stop sometimes and walk the other way. Best to get to know a local small shop and buy some stuff. You may be surprized that he can get you a good deal if you ask. what is on the rack is not always the deal for someone that will be back next week thats my bed time story rick
