I don't usually buy much from them and have never made it to the new store in Rapid City which is only 45 minutes away...
but I stopped in the Mitchell store on the way to Sioux Falls.

I found a Lyman 4500 heater in the Bargain Cave for only $11!! The box was rough and taped several times, but the salesman opened the box for me, inside the heater and cord were still in the heat sealed plastic baggy.

I also found a new RCBS Quick Change rotor and QC drain tube for $13,,, to upgrade my Uniflow powder measure. Just need to order a QC small meter insert when I get home.

Not much other reloading stuff in the Cave or on the sales floor, except brass and bullets. No casting stuff whatsoever...the salesmen gave me funny looks when i asked! They laughed when I asked about primers and powders!!!

Nice find! Yeah, primers are tough to find (at least at reasonable cost). The local gun shop here takes advantage of that and asks $36/1000 LP plus tax. No luck with large rifle anywhere here in the Cincinnati area...

A BARGAIN in the bargain cave? Somebody's going to lose their job over that.

Last time I was at my local Cabelas I found an RCBS 505 beam scale in tie bargain cave or $20. I had to o through three boxes to get all the prats for one, guess that's why they were there.

Most of the items in the bargain cave are not that great of deal...mostly only 5-10% off regular price.

What happened to the old Herters store in Mitchell?

Herters closed a long time ago, I think back in the 80's.

I was in the store years ago and was wondering if the building was still there.

We were passing through Mitchell in 1978 while on vacation and I stopped in the Herters store. They were in the process of closing at the time and selling out to the walls. I spent a grand total of .35 cents on a primer pocket cleaner wire brush. I was tempted to buy a bear trap but it weighed 90 pounds as I recall and that was not something I wanted to lug all the way across the U.S. I should add that bears had ceased to be a problem in my neighborhood at that time. Herters had planned to open stores in key locations around the country in a effort to get around the onerous 1968 gun ban but it did not prove to be practical.
