Howdy All!

Long time lurker, First time poster.

My first (of many) questions is re gaschecking.
Can I fire gascheck bullets (.44Mag) without the gaschecks? At what point do I need to install a gascheck (fps)? Also, what purpose do they serve?

Thanks,
Skink

yes you can fire a GC boolit without a GC on it
if you keep them below 1400-1500
you dont really need one unless you gun is prone to fouling
i run my lyman 429421 plain base from my superblackhawk up to 1400
with no leading probs.
all depends on what you size your boolits to, and what your needs are

Or you could do a search and find the dozens of other posts related to this very same discussion....

Welcome 1stSkink, Congrats on your first post. Yes you can use CB with the gas check shank with out the GC, if you run them to hard or if they aren't sized correctly for your bore, you will start fouling the BBL. I have a couple of 429215 molds that I use a lot of boolits out of with out the GC, at about 1200fps.

As Bret pointed out there are threads on this that will answer all your questions, I could write you a book, but I won't unless you don't find what you need, if so just ask.[smilie=1:
Good luck and enjoy!!!

Slow Elk 45/70, thanks for the response! I will try a GC mold for my .44.
