41 mag and 170G LSWC

I'm looking for some load data for a 170 grain LSWC. I have Acc #2, H110, IMR4227, W231 for powders. I'm shooting it in a TC contender with a super 14 barrel.

Probably not much help but I use 5 gr of Bullseye under a 175 gr Lee cast bullet for 850 fps in my Ruger Bisley 7 1/2" barreled .41.

My experience with lighter weight cast bullets in .357 and .44 magnum TC barrels tells me that I'd start at 4 gr with W231 and work up. I'd expect accuracy to go south around 1200 fps (doesn't take near as much powder in a TC barrel as it does in a revolver. I'd also look at trying 7.5 to 9 gr of Unique.

I shoot mainly 41 nag when I an up North there... and the powders you have a great for low power and Magnum but not for the 90 % of loading I do.
My 2 favorites are Acc#5 and Unique and those 2 powders get loaded in most of my cases.
Generally a WC is used in that low power range. My one Winchester Guide shows 7.4 grains 231 with a 200 lwc at 1130 fps ... so your 170 should be about that + some.
Are you looking for a HOT load or just a slow plinker type ?

Kyle, welcome to the board. Are you looking for low-end plinking loads, medium or monster power? You have powders that will handle all three.

Your Accurate #2 will handle light loads, your W231 will pick up from there and stretch through medium, and that H110 and 4227 will belch flame. (literally so in the case of H110!)

i'm basically looking for a midrange hunting and plinking load. till i can get a heavier mold.

For a midrange load, I think I'd start somewhere around 7.0 W231 and possibly work up to 8-ish if extraction stays easy.

Oh, and you seem to have created two screen names, ending in 623 and 663. That's how you have one post - twice!
