cast in the 25 06

As I have several molds for the .257 for my 25 20 I would like to hear from any of you that have used cast bullets in the 25 06. I have never tried them in this gun but would like some advice on somewhere to start. I have both gas check and plain base molds. Thanks for the input..........:-D

humm..that is a though one.
Probably the reason why no one answered yur question..

Truth is, I simply gave up on anything below 30 caliber.

Here goes.
RCBS 100 grain bullet, use a gas check. That bullet is short, and has a long body, with a short flat nose. Ideal as a cast bullet.

The lube should be LBT blue if you got it, or the Lee NRA soft lube is OK to.
Lee liquid alox is great if you let it dry out, and hand lube it on !

25-06 has a nice long neck, and the RCBS bullet is not too long, so I would seat it's base above the case neck, and try to have it long enough to push just a little into the rifling in the throat. ( slight crush marks )

If you must use a sizer, push down on the bullet ever soo slightly, so you do not bend the bullet, nor bulge the bullet nose.

Cast it from ww and air cool them, that way they can slug out when you fire them.

Velosity 1700 to 2200 fps. You will probably get your best accracy at 1700 to 1800 fps.

Powder 2400, 4759, or 4198.

Or, as to powders, you can just flush all the powder down the toilet, and just go with 2400.

2400 is the best cast bullet powder ever made in my opinion.

I had a 25-06 when it was still a wildcat. Eventually I bought a 120 grain mold and stashed it away and forgot about it. I receintly found this mold and it still looks brand new. I need to get going on that and find a couple loads and see if I can get that boolit to shoot. I wonder if Blue Dot would work on this one.

Yes, it will do fine using a soft rifle primer. It is the fastest powder I would use. Make sure each shot has powder against primer. ... felix

I use to load paper patch bullets in my 25-06 till my hand got to stove up to patch them. 100gr over 55gr h4831 was a great shooter.

I don't have a 25-06, but what's the big deal shooting cast from one? Now I've been around it 243 , 223, and 22 Hornet below it, and bunch of 6.5's just right above it. The only thing I see making it a little tough is the giant 30-06 class case. I would use a 50/50 alloy and that is WW's/pure.lead and I would water quench them right from the mould and size them as soon as possible. LBT is good for very high velocity, but not necessary for all the other slower loads. You can start off with the 2400 powder or 4227, get the feel of it, then go to medium to slow rifle powders.
