hi i just picked some alloy at a scrap yard ! they told me it was bearing babbit ? so after some tests here are my results out of a lyman 454454 255 gr mould bullet weight 215 gr, dia 0.456, hardness after air cooled 17 to 18 bhn, the bullet is very shiny & filled out well, melting temp approx 240 to 250 degrees and gets mushy between 200 to 220 degrees???????????????? thanks bob!

Holy smokes, that stuff has a low melting point! It might have some very dangerous metals in it like cadmium. I would be afraid to melt the stuff. I hope you had a lot of ventilation.

Tin based babbit, but be careful of the cadmium that MIGHT be there too. Should not be, though. It should have a foundry label on it, and a alloy number of sorts. From that we might be able to tell something about what you have. In the meantime, use the stuff as a tin additive, and not as a shootable alloy by itself. ... felix

hi felix this was in long sections about 15 inches long and 1 inch wide with spillage somewhat like a sprue from a 8 cavaity mould minus the sprue holes that were poured into a flat top and a v shaped bottom no# or specfication it was melted down metal

Treat it as 85 percent tin. ... felix
