Looking at the specs for the cases I show the 9mm to be roughly .007 caliber wider at roughly all points on the case. While I realize this might play a little havoc with the burnrate I think the thinkness of the 9mm, designed to be a higher preasure load, would be able to handle it. Thoughts? Anyone tried this?

You can make 9x18 (makarov) from 9x19 but the 9x19 is too big to make a 9x17(380) from. Actual measurements from a 380 and a 9x19 right here show the 9x19 as .012" bigger than a 380 at the back end.

I think that's a lot of triming for marginal success!

You'll have to cut them back about .075 and figure out a way to swage the case head down .007 to get them to chamber.

I suppose if I was snow locked in the heart of the Alaskan wilderness, and had 10,000 case for 9mm and didn't own one, I might consider figureing a way to do all this stuff.

Seriously if you have the cash buy some new ones from Starline, Otherwise I'll suggest a want ad in the classifieds, some one may donate some 380 brass to you?

Well, if it will fit at all, it would give you a tight chamber fit - if you have any reason to want a snugger fit in your chamber. Possibly on your side - most brass is way smaller than Saami specs anyway. Measure your sized 9mm brass and compare it with fired .380 brass (from YOUR gun).

I would say don't do it. I've picked up range brass before. Thought that some were 380 because the length was right. They wouldn't fit the magazine and jammed the gun. Then I looked at the head stamp, they were trimmed 9mm. So take it from experience. It does NOT work.

Someone here needs 9mm brass and will buy or trade you for it.
