I bought a bunch of WC860 some while ago to use in a 7mm Rem Mag. I haven't shot the 7mm much. I recently bought an early Swede 96B, and figured I would try WC860 in it.

People here suggested a certain charge, others suggested filling the case to the junction of the neck and shoulder. With the PMC brass I have, somewhere between 52 and 53 grains fills the case to the junction. I started with a lower charge and worked up. I shot two series, one with regular Winchester LR primers, the other with Winchester LRM primers.

The results? The last little bit of unburned powder in the bore disappeared about 51 grains. Best groups were at 52.5gr using the Magnum primers, about an inch. There was not a lot of difference between regular and Magnum primers in groups, primer flattening, or anything else.

I got the feeling that there would be a lot of flash from this load if shot in the early morning or evening.

Similar results here, in a Ruger 77R chambered in 6.5 x 55. Hornady #2630 (140 grain spitzer), 3.090" OAL, 55.0 grains of WC-860 in R-P cases. 2450 FPS average velocity/22" barrel, and 7/8"-1" groups at 100 yards. As Buckshot pointed out, that is "1896-vintage" spec ballistics.

Hmm, I got a couple Arisakas that have been rechambered to 6.5x257, and an untouched 8lb jug of WC860. Now I have an idea what to do with it, especially since one of them has a long barrel. I think I'll pass on using it in the carbine though. Actually, in looking at load data on Western's site, it appears this might be what they are calling "Magnum" powder, or somewhere in the neighborhood anyway.

WC872, Lot# 49450. Rem 140 CL, bbl lgth 24" 51-60.0 grs 2100-2495 FPS
WC872, Lot# 49450. Hdy 140 PSP, bbl lgth 24" 60.0 grs 2770 FPS

Rifle was a 1943 Huskavarna made M38 in what looked like un-issued condition. Cases were many times fired CBC cases, neck sized only. The Hornady slug was into the lands. The Remington 140gr is a 2 diameter bullet and would not engrave in the military leade.

Check Castpics for other data. Go to: http://www.castpics.net/

Once on the home page, select "Research and Data" on the menu.

Then select "Cast members load data"

This will then have a chart listing various cartridges. Click on the cartridge and it will open displaying load data for a lot of the surplus powder that was available in the 90's.

In the 6.5 Swede, I did find they prefer a softer boolit to shoot well.
