Truncated Cone Moulds

I recently purchased two six cavity truncated cone boolit moulds. A 175 gr. 40 and a 230gr. 45. I have poured about 500 in each mould and the weights and sizes are consistent. I'm really just trying to get some opinions/ advice, favorite loads, and really anything else anyone feels like lettin' me know if you have used these before. :castmine:

I'll be clocking mine in .45 ACP today or tomorrow.
I'll post results. My 230 .45 LEE TLTC mold drops at .452 and weigh 238 gr.

The LEE TLTC loaded with 3.6 gr Bullseye averaged 718.6 fps Extreme spread is 58.92

3.8 gr of Bullseye was 744.3 with extreme spread of 46.69

In a S&W 625 Auto Rim brass, 3.6gr of Bullseye gave 633.5 gave. Extreme spread 45

3.8 was 672 with extreme spread of 62.63

Recoil in the 1911 was sharp at 3.8 gr. I am going to try a slower p[owder for this boolit as it drops at 238 gr from the mold. Extreme spreads seemed a little high.

That might be the best potential signature line I've ever seen on a reloading-related forum. :)

I am a big fan of the Lee autopistol TC designs, and use them in 9mm, 10mm, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP. I load them all so that roughly .020" of the front drive band extends forward from the case mouth, and this feeds well in all the stutter-guns I run the boolits in.

I use my Lee TC 45 single-lube groove bullet in both 45 ACP and 45 Colt revolver loads, and it is a good all around slug for this. Mine weigh 238 grains; they even work well for my 45 Colt Pyrodex loads, even if they aren't quite "traditional". Very flexible design and easily cast, it's hard to fault these.

I can't speak for the Lee TC molds, but I have a lyman 120 grain 9mm TC mold, and it gives great results for me in a Beretta 92FS sized .356 and loaded about halfway between the starting and max loads Lyman lists for this boolit with green dot. Shoots better than any factory rounds I've fired, and feeds as good as RN

I have used the 45 one in my XD. It feeds nicely, the most accurate loads so far are the Lyman listed maximum for Blue Dot, it is a romper stomper load too.

I have been using the RCBS 115 grain mold listed under their 9mm offerings. It casts at .357 using regular WW's. I have used it a lot in 9mm...a Baretta 92SB, a Luger and a S&W 952. Totally reliable feeding all around and good sccuracy. The bullet has two broad bands that take the rifling well. Since it casts at .357 I have also used it in the 38 special and the .357. It is a little light in weight for them, but shoots accurately in both at 25 meters. The absence of the tip appears to move the center of gravity back a bit and as such would also shorten the longitudinal axis around which the bullet has to spin, giving some increased stability to it. i have TC designed moulds from NEI, Lee, Lyman. The 233 gr NEI bullet I have been using in the 45 ACP as my standard bullet for many many years. Works great. NEI TC bullet for 9mm & 38 Super works great, had it many years. Lyman TC also works great in 9mm & 38 Super. Lee TC for 40/10mm @ 175 gr is most accurate bullet I have tried in the 10mm. And they are all easy to cast !! Don't own any plastic guns so don't know about them.

I shoot it in a Glock 36. Pretty accurate and feeds better than a round-nose or semi-wadcutter. Everything feeds in my Dan Wesson CBOB.

I have several Lee 6 cavity moulds in 45 cal - two (2) 200gr SWC and one (1) TC - all of which work fine, the boolits being shot in both a Colt Gov 1911-A1 Model 80 and a Para Ordnance single stack 745. I also have several two and four cavity TC moulds made by SAECO in 9mm, 40cal and 45cal. The boolits from the 40cal mould are used in both a Glock Model 20 (10mm) and a Glock Model 22 (40S&W) and I've had absolutely no feed problems or leading problems, such as many have reported. I've had both my Glocks for over 15 years and each has had literally thousands of rounds put through their stock barrels without a single leading problem. Perhaps that's because I clean my pistols after every 200 rounds or after each shooting session, whichever comes first. But as someone else said, that's my experience with Glocks and lead boolits and it's not a guarantee that you won't have problems.

My .452 TC drops them a little over .452. I found my flux has some impact on the cast dia. I was using some 2 cycle oil to flux and the bullets dropped smaller than if I use gulf canning wax.

Saeco 230 gr TC 45 auto,I have to sit the bullet (.452)so the driving ban is not visible,other wise the bullet get stack in the barrell stopping the slide from .closing,This is in a M&P ,on my kimbers I have no problem with a larger OAL.

I guess my responce is 3 years late! I shoot the Lee 230 TC, with single lube groove, in both my Ruger P90 and my RIA 1911. I lube with my home made Speed Green and have no problems. BTW I didn't like the bevel base so I set up the mold and drilled the bevel off, can't tell the mold was modified from the lubed and sized bullet...

I've shot the MBC 180 TC in my XDm 40, works fine. Got the Lee 175 TC and found the meplat is quite a bit larger, bullet is shorter. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but it appears that I get dents in the bullet from the feed ramp if I don't seat much deeper. After I get that problem worked out I'll remove the BB. Also working with the SWC version.

I've had good feeding and accuracy in almost every 9, 7.63, or 7.65mm pistol in which I've used truncated bullets. No modifications to the guns were necessary.

The only exception was a Mauser 1914 in 7.65. No seating depth or sized diameter would make that gun happy. On the other hand, it never saw a round nose bullet it didn't like.

I run the 230 TC 45 mold. But I machined the bevel off the mold. It now throws a 205gr Boolit.
I load 7.0gr W540 and fire it in a Para GI Expert 1911.
The 40 cal TC is fired in a Glock 35 with Factory barrel over 5.4 WSF for a Velocity of 1011FPS. Lube is Jakes Purple Cerasin.
