I bought this little guy about a month and a half ago. I originally was going to buy the CW40, 40 S&W version of this gun, but the gun shop I purchased it from had this new CW45 mismarked for $60 less than the 40, no brainer right.

When I asked the owner of the shop about the recoil from such a light weight gun, he said "Well I wouldn’t go home and shoot 230gr Ball ammo through it, I would stick with 185gr or less", well I went home and ran 230gr Ball ammo through it :-D. I have better than 500 rounds through it and haven’t had any major problems, Karh suggests a 200+ round break in period, and mine ran good from the start when the ammo was correct. It seems to have a shorter throat than my 1911 and have to seat the bullet (230gr +) deeper in the case to get it to chamber.

Today I ran 50 rounds through it, some 230gr Jacketed, 240gr Hollow point (454424), and some 200gr (452460).

As long as the ammo will chamber, it will fire and cycle the action no matter how you hold the pistol, strong/weak handed, one handed, limp wristed, seem however I shoot hold the pistol it doesn’t quit until the mag is empty. One thing I didn’t have to change was my grip, seems my thumb was hitting the mag release on the recoil and popping the mag out, so I changed my grip slightly and no problems now.

It is fairly accurate. I know this saying gets old but it is more accurate than I can shoot it. Im not much of a handgun guy I have a few of them but never have really mastered them.

This is 2 mags worth with 230gr FMJ's at 7 yards offhand unsupported.

I know us reloaders don’t care for picking up brass from an autoloader, but this one seems to put them in a 2 foot circle about 4 feet to the right and about a foot back.

Here is something to consider though, the Karh has a long double action style trigger. They are not equipped with an external safety, so when holstering I try to remember to stick my finger behind the trigger that way if it does get caught on something the trigger doesn’t have enough room to fire the gun.

When I wake up in the morning I tuck the gun in a Don Hume holster into my waste band and often forget that its there until I take it off at night. I can run, jump, lift, even throw a bowling ball, and not worry about it coming out of the holster or being exposed. Im not a real big guy, about 5' 11" and 175 pounds, I conceal this handgun in a regular tee shirt.

For my carry load I choose 200gr Speer Gold Dots and glad I did judging by the expansion. With Winchester Primers, 10.0gr of Bluedot, this load produces about 900 FPS. It’s a fire breather right before dark it will almost flash blind you, but it looks like it will be very effective if ever it needed to be. I carry it full, 6 in the mag and one in the chamber.

Very nice weapon Doug.

I have a PM 45. I'm not having quite the good luck you are with it. From the start it would stuff the last empty back into the mag.

I called Kahr and they nicely sent me a new mag catch to hold the mag a little lower (~ .020).

It did help, but only that it doesn't stuff the last empty back into the mag quite so hard. :)

I sent it back to them last week. I really hope they get it working as I love the little guy. I mean, a six shot .45 that fits into my front pocket? Oh man.

I cant believe I spelled Kahr wrong :D .

I was going to mention the recoil, but got distracted by the girlfriend.

The recoil with my carry load 200gr GD at 900fps isnt that bad, double taps are easy and stay on target, but when I get into a triple tap the third shot isnt on target. I find it more managable than my dads MK9, stainless steel Kahr 9mm, the recoil feels alot less with my CW45 shooting those 200gr slugs.

Recoil. Yea, my little pound and a half PM does get a bt snappy! They are nice to pack though, ain't they?

Excellent write up Doug!! Now that I have a bit better understanding of how good the 45 model, you may be costing me some more money. Thanks alot [smilie=1:

Nice pics and review. I looked at the CW series but traded for a PM9 instead. It is a beast to shoot with the short 6-round magazine but small enough to put into my pocket.

Found one used at a local gun shop today for $299.99 with a $35 for a used Kahr. I almost picked it up. They also had a used CW9 for $350. I almost picked it up also. I may go back tomorrow if I get the time and get it. I'll be thinking about it.

I had no problems with 230 grain ammo and recoil with my CW45, but I did have issues with the gun not going into battery with handloaded ammo that shot fine in my 1911. It seemed the bullet was contacting the lands and I would have to occasionally rap the back of the slide to get it to go into battery. I set my seating die slightly lower and that solved the problem. One thing I quickly did on the gun was to "detune" the stippling on the front strap as it wore on my fingers like a cheese grater. Good gun, especially for the price point.

Sounds like you have a winner.

Great report...thanks for posting.

I carry a CW45 every day. Great little pistol, 1lb 10oz fully loaded. Buttery smooth trigger pull, and for a short barreled gun they are surprisingly accurate and will often cut one raggedy hole at 15 yards.

They gobble up 230gr Speer Gold Dot JHP but do not like Hornady xtp. Follow the well prescribed cleaning and 350 round break in, and DO NOT OIL the slide or striker channel at all when reassembling.

Barrels will take .451" boolits but mine will not plunk any .452" no matter what the style boolit so I just carry factory Gold Dot in it on the street, and use plated .451" HP for range sessions.

They respond VERY WELL to throating the barrel, they seem to like a longer freebore as they shoot even better groups afterwards. Here is one of Kahr's (Walther made) premium barrels with the polygonal rifling after throating. This one will plunk and feed .452" as long as you want to seat them out of the case, so long as they will still cycle through the magazine:

Groo here
I got one for my dad, they are light but have a good grip to get a hold of.
If you go to the Kahr forums you can find how to mod 1911 officers mags to work.[just "incase"]
