I went into the local sporting goods store in Ely to buy night crawlers (seemed harmless enough) and checked out the rifle rack while I was there. There was a just like new model 94 legacy in 38-55. The previous owner shot 2 boxes through it and when Obama got elected decided he needed a mini 14 and traded the 94 for a new mini 14 straight up. The store manager was happy to sell it for the price of the mini 14 and it had a sticker of $599.99 on it. Even with no job there was no way I was going to leave the store without it!

26" round bbl, color case reciever, forearm cap and buttplate, cut checkering and a flip up tang sight. If this wasn't good enough, there was a set of RCBS dies, half a box of loaded ammo, 100 pieces of brass and about 300 commercial cast boolits came with it. Can't wait to play with it. It didn't come with a box or papers, damn. I need to size pictures down they fail to attach.

You are a very lucky man to find that rifle. I've been looking for one but none show up locally. Make sure you let us know about your experiences shooting that sweet rifle.

Buckshot:

It will surely make the trip. I like the looks of your shooting bench so far.

I'm not a "lever" man; but that still is a very nice weapon, and purchase. 38-55 is one of my most absolute favorite calibers of all time! You Sir, got a steal, of a deal.

If that rifle ever runs away from home, I hope it comes here!

Took a .375 round ball and whacked it with a hammer to take it out to .384. Slugged the bore with it from muzzle to chamber. Using a dial caliper shows .379-.380. The rifle came with a box of Cast Performance LFNGC .380/260gr. I loaded 20 cases with 18gr of surplus SR4759 and went to the range. It's a shooter! First 3 shots at 25 yds were dead center and a bit high and formed a nice cloverleaf, one ragged hole! After that I spent more time playing with the tang sight than shooting groups but all landed very predictably where the rifle was pointed whacking a 8" gong at 100 yds and a ram at 200 yds repeatedly. Don't want to say too much lest they don't let me compete with it in Winnemucca lol.

I must be living right. Now all I need is a job!

Bruce--

I swear--you could fall into an outhouse, and climb out smelling of Giorgio Red.

The job will happen.
