Good afternoon
I DO ENJOY reading here and getting BETTER ideas. Thank you all for sharing!
Off and on I have needed a receiver wrench here in Peru. There is NO place to buy any. So as always I tend to start looking for the simple solution. I do not have a welder and decided to come up with the absolute simplest design I could.
The steel handle measures 1" x 1.5" and is a total of 22" long. Space between 1/2 bolts is 4". The moving jaw is 6". Bolts are 4" long. I think the steel was an axle. GOOD hard stuff. I resharpened my drill bit on my Drill doctor for every hole. Old motor oil was addded to each cut for lube. The left over end makes a nice wacker.
The receiver wrench weights 12 pounds. The two plastic guards are fron a plastic quart oil jug. Total cost was $8 and three hours. Locating the steel and two bolts was one hour.
Today I removed two barrels with no fuse. [smilie=f:

Sure I can... but the quarenteen time and the Doctor fees would make it cheaper to fly down and eat all ya want.

If you drill one more hole spaced for a heavy duty muffler clamp (U shaped) you can remove Mauser type barrels without marring up the receiver too.

I made one years ago out of a 1"x1"36" piece of 6061 Al that worked real well.

Yours being steel is More Better.

Good Work,

Wheas da truck bed? I thought you needed to clamp it to a truck bed.

You could also carve hardwood inserts for round barrels. Might need longer screws is all.

I made one up years ago with a reversible top strap that has a "V" notch on one side. The barrel vice has a 20 ton jack and I machine aluminum blocks for the different size barrels.

Good morning John T
Thanks for the fotos... that is a good looking rig ! That gives me another idea about the barrel wrench. So far my bench vise with wood blocks and emery paper has taken care of my two small projects. I do not forsee any Mauser/03 removals but if I do I will have a hydralic assistant.
