How do you pronounce Moison Nagant? Is it "Moe-oy-son Nay-gant"?

"The Mosin-Nagant Rifle" by Terence W. Lapin says it is pronounced MO seen Nah GON.

I kinda like Musty Nugget, I have heard it pronounced by a French speaker and I can say it, but I can't figure out how to write it. Shepherd is close but the Gon part is slurred sounding. I don't worry about it 'cause no one I know can pronounce it either.

The book says ""Nagant", a Walloon (Belgian French) name, is pronounced rather like Nah-GON, the second syllable being nasalized". I just say Mo sin Na gant and everyone knows what I'm talking about. I like Musty Nugget. That could catch on.

For those who don't already know Leon & Emil Nagant were Belgian arms designers & manufacturers who collaborated in design of the Mosin Nagant rifle. They were the designers of the Russian 1895 Nagant revolver.

Another Emil Nagant product. The Comblain. In this case a carbine. Very elegantly machined and thought out compact action. This is an 1874 model.

A falling block action with a shrouded hammer. Automaticly cocks when the lever is lowered. No safety at all except to leave the lever short of fully closed.

Remove 2 screws and the complete internal works slips out the bottom as one piece for cleaning. The fit and finish of the metal parts has to be seen to be believed. Fancy stuff for 1874.

The only part of the Mosin-Nagant that was designed by M. Nagant was the magazine. Col. Mosin's rifle looks a lot like a slimmed down derivation of the Berdan II rifle to me. Kinda like the Luger is a streamlined Borchardt.

4sfingermick - If you are asking about the Ballester Molina I believe it is the Argentine version of the Colt 1911 pistol.
