Income tax is here. :drinks: Ive tossed around the Buffalo Classic 45-70 and 45 colt, but now that Ive handled a Charles Daly Little Sharps, I think thats the way Im going to go.

Problem is... which caliber???

It is chambered in 17hmr, 22lr, Hornet, Bee, 30-30, 38-55, 45 colt.

Which do you guys think and why???

Part of me says the Bee; cheap to shoot and fun, but another part is saying the Colt round for its deer killing ability. I have a 77/22 Hornet, and about five 30-30's, so I probably will shy away from those.

Opinions please?!

38-55 or the Colt. I'd probably get the Colt, I think it would make a neat combo. Even with mild pressures, I would bet on plenty of power from a rifle length barrel. Post pics when you get it!

Don't they also make that sharps in a .357 mag??? Think they do, then you could ream it out to .357max!!! Thad' be a deer slayer for sure!

They are all great cartridges but the store bought easy to get, cheap common cartridges are the 22lr and 30-30. Nothing you could not do with either of those when used in their intended class. Being a single shot gun, you could reload the 30-30 with pointy boolits and get a little more umph from it.

Owning 2 38-55s, I'll promise you the caliber is absolutely grand! And, you just don't see this caliber as often. Especially, for resale. You'll find brass, and components; but you will have to hunt! My second choice would be 45LC, then 30-30.

The price on the Charles Daly is attractive. Being foreign made is a negative IMO. You can get a used Model 1875 for just a little more. Or, order an Encore and buy whatever barrel you need, when you need it. Their custom shop made me a grand 38-55 bull barrel.

To add to the confusion, I like a 32-40 equally well! :drinks:

Let us know what you decide!

.38-55 It's the classic cast bullet cartridge. You're a caster and reloader, or you would not be here, so components should not be a concern.

My vote would be for the .45 Colt, with the deer in mind. CB's have done a really nice job in the '94 trapper for my aunt. Plus I just like the round.

OK, you've already got the Hornet, so why mess with the Bee. You have the 30-30, and you know you really should wear the .45 Colt on your hip, so I guess that leaves just the 38-55. Problem solved!:drinks:

Besides, it's one heck of a fine deer thumper, especially with some of our GB mould boolits.:Fire:

Just my thoughts... I own most of those. Two 38-55s, 45colt handgun and rifle(Marlin). Love the Marlin but it's a lever so not really the question. The 38-55s are both High Walls and while they shoot OK they are a little finicky. Now to my point. I have a Uberti high wall in 30-30 and that thing will really shoot. Cases are easy to find and either the 311291 or the 311041 work great. I just keep going back to it time and time again. It's just plan fun all around. That's what i think...

38-55 Finicky as all get out, but, once you get it dialed in,
