I just cast up a couple hundred of .50, and .45 R.E.A.L. castings.
Wow! did they come out great! New mold, no rejects!!!
I did, soak them each for five days in mineral spirits. Lots of aluminum flakes in the bottom of the cups I soaked them in. No wonder my other molds took time to cast with.
At any rate. I have a bunch of beeswax. I want to pan lube them.
Any good mixtures you guys found?
They are impressive castings.
One of the hold downs on the .45 mold came loose. When it cools I will peen the aluminum holding it.
I ran my pot low doing this. The pot got red inside. I run it at 9.

50/50 beeswax/crisco with a healthy dollop of olive or vegetable oil is a standard. You don't want to lube too many at a time, because they'll clump together over time. All the good BP lubes have to be pretty soft to keep the BP fouling soft.

Sounds good to me. I got it all on hand.
When we got to the range, we fire several hundred at a time.
Now, to figuire out a powder measure.

I throw mine into a plastic container with some corn starch. Swirl them around a bit and take 'em out. Puts a nice coating of CS on the boolits and makes them easy to handle and they do not stick together.

No problem running them thru a reloading press and speeds up the process.

Cheap and easy, just like me.

I just got back from a friend's and we tried out some of the Red Dot loads I just did. I pan lubed them with 60%beeswax/40% vasolene. Seemed to work well. Barrels look a little dirty but no leading.
