I had a chance to day to try a 200 yard target using the williams peep LP series and a .404 fiber optic red front sight.I set up a target 18Lx12W and it took 92 clicks for 6 shots in a pie plate (6") size groupe at that distance.I had to write down on paper the way the sight moves got thrown off a little with way to turn the knobs.
I hope to try the 300 yard set up maybe next week
I now have it set it takes 20 clicks dead on a 50 yards and 24 clicks for the 100 yard target.
I then set up the sight to shoot about 13 " over center at the 100 yard first shot hit low but on paper then a few minor click for dead center .
I forgot to mention from zero it took 91 clicks to hit dead center at 200 yards target from the bench

6" is not too bad at all for that setup.:-D Ya might cut in a bit if ya throw that newfangled powder away and try some Swiss.[smilie=1:

The 45-70 you metion is shot fairly regular. He has had some good results with almost every boolit we have tried. Right now his load forf hunting is a 360gr flat nose that we did a group buy on a couple years ago with 68gr of Goex Cart.

I was thinking in some BP this summer Swiss you say :how many grain would I need ? and what type 2F 3F

3f will burn cleaner generally speaking. With thin brass like winchester, it is possible to get 55grains under a Lee or Lyman 250gr boolit. That may not be the load that shoots best for you though. I would start at 45-50gr and work up to what shoots best. Be sure to eliminate any airspace between powder and boolit if you are seating them out. The right lube too is important for BP.

I did get a chance to day to try the 300 and 500 yard target:I have to say 12Wx20H did get 10 shots on paper after a few adjustment with the william FP rear peep set-up
I now have 136 clicks for 500 yard shot from the bench
Let see
20 clicks for 50 yard
24 " for 100 yard
91 " for 200 yard
101 " for 300 yard
136 " for 500 yard
group would be around 10" not to bad we did have a cross wind here and there : I was very pleased with the turn at that distance

20 clicks for 50 yard
24 " for 100 yard
91 " for 200 yard
101 " for 300 yard
136 " for 500 yard

Something about that 200-yard setting seems cockeyed to me...

I dunno MC, It may run out of steam pretty quick after 150yds. If you are shooting 10" groups at 500, you re doing great for that gun and sight combo.

No disagreement with that possibility.
But, to need 67 clicks to get from 100 to 200...and only 10 to get from 200 to 300...that seems 'off', somehow.

Then, with just 35 additional clicks, you can get from 300 all the way out to 500...

There is something 'non-linear' there that I don't understand.

200 yards shot were high over center of target but on paper

I understand what you are saying, it does seem off. Then from 300 to 500 is 35 clicks. So that would place a theoretical value of 118-19 for 400, or about 17 clicks. Those values seem in line. Just for kicks I ran it through my balistics software and came up with this.

0 @ 100

-23" @ 200

-70" @ 300

-151" @ 400

-262" @ 500

I'm not positive of the click value on Lonewolfs sights but for the sake of conversation I assigned my software to 1 click = 1 inch just for reference to see if something similar occurred.

"0" = 100yds

+11 = 200yds

+24 = 300yds

+38 = 400yds

+53 = 500yds

These show a reasonable increase in height value as range increases. It almost looks like the 200 yard notation was the number of clicks from the bottom of the sight movement.
