Is it worth casting .223 for use in a M4?

probably not...jacketed are cheap and you probably wont get a cast bullet to survive the abuse a semi auto 223 dishes out at 550000 psi or anywhere near that required to operate the action.

Sure you can.

I shoot cast in my 6.8 and my 223 both AR-15's.

For plinking its fine, I havent pushed them past 100 yards yet though.

Make a jacket .224 bullet out of spent 22lr brass. As to shooting cast in a gas gun that ****s where it eats. I have tired it with my 1/7 and 1/12 ARs. The 1/12 worked better but the gun got dirty as hell after a few rounds. I'll stick with J bullets in my AR's.
My 2¢.

"jacketed are cheap" ain't what it used to be - when you can find 'em !
