I am working on resizing the Saeco #017 down to .452 for use in my SRH chambered in 454 casull. I am doing this in two stages, using a Lee .454 push through followed by an RCBS Lube a matic for final sizing, final lube, and gas check crimp. The #017 drops .460 and I am putting a lot of pressure on the old RCBS RC to get the bullets through. Anybody have experience with the higher powered presses like the ones for 50 cal? I don't think I will break the old RC but don't feel comfortable leaning on the handle as hard as I am either. Tried using case lubes and other odds and ends I had and it helps some. :-D

What alloy? AC or WD? Have you tried Imperial sizing wax or Anhydrous Lanolin?

Probably should have mentioned that, the bullets are water dropped WW. I have not tried lanolin or sizing wax, I had my best luck so far with STP but it's pretty messy.:-D

If you take a good look at your product (boolet both before and after sizing) you'll see quite a difference. Your lube capacity is not going to improve with your next step.

Sounds like you are basically doing the same thing I am doing. I am sizing the Lee 340 gr. boolit that comes out at around .460 - .461 down to shoot out of my Ruger SRH 454 Casull. I am using straight wheel weight and water droped. I use my Lee Classic Cast press and it's no problem with it.

Have you tried shooting them sized to .454? That is what I shoot mine sized to and get good accuracy. I don't use gas checks though.

How long after water dropping are you sizing? There is a BIG difference between even 12 hour old water dropped boolits, and the same just a day or 2 later. If they are a few days old, try casting and sizing the same day. Water quenched boolits gain BHN rapidly.

Try sizing & lubing (very important) to .457-.458, then try sizing down further, perhaps to .454, then to .452 using LEE push throughs. The lube in the grooves should help keep the integrity of the groove, plus provide some lubrication for the next phase in sizing.

Sounds like I need to do a better job of greasing these pigs and getting them through the die sooner after casting. Thanks all!:-D
