ok guys i had a bit of time at work to look up some stuff last night. and i found that the 7.62x54r dies are cut for 308 bullets. now this poses a problem from what i have read about the m38. from what i have read they run a bit bigger around 310 or so. so i read on and saw the fix for this is to take a head from a 7.62x39 which is about a 310 or so and use that. now both the dies were lees. so is it tuff to switch the heads and also would it be a better idea to go with a different die. i found on midway that i can get a basic 7.62x39 2 die set for like 11 bucks and the 7.62x54 for i think 18. now with that it makes it about 29 dollars, the rcbs dies are about 4 dollars cheaper. ok guys just looked up the rcbs dies and they can do both 310 and 308. now is this hard to get done also. because if i have to set it up a certain way with the rcbs, thewn maybe the lee will work better. but im leaning towards the rcbs. and also do the rcbs have any kind of crimping on them. let me know what you all think.
thanks jason

I'm useing a set of RCBS dated 75 and they take 0.312" boolits fine and crimp also. No problem with them in the last 25 years.

RCBS dies probably can put a little roll crimp on, but for that to work successfully the cases must all be the exact same lenght. Lee provides both the 7.62x39 and 7.62x54R with a factory crimp dies which is much better then a roll crimp and length isn't critical with them.

I've been using RCBS dies for the 7.62 x 54R with a Lyman "M" die for my .30-06 for 13yrs. and haven't yet had a problem loading .311" & .312" CB's. If you need to change expander balls, it is very easy to do once you've read the instructions and have the sizer die in hand. Btw, if you purchase the RCBS set (strong guarantee), you can telephone them to request a larger expander ball if it is needed.

I load lead bullets for the 7.62x54 with Lee dies. I use the universal expander and the factory crimp dies to load .311 bullets.

I use Lee dies, but needed the expander for .311" bullets too. I bought a used set of 303 British dies for $5 at a gun show, and swiped the one from there. I use the crimp die that came with the Lee set. I've only shot jackeded in it so far, but .311" bullets shoot into 3 1/2" at 100 yds, while .308" won't hit the paper! Varget is the best powder I've tried.

I just bought a new set of RCBS dies and they came with two sizes of expander balls. Maybe a new thing getting both; open a box and look. luck helps

I've just picked up a Musty Nugget, I'll have to take the vernier when I go shopping.

I've been using a set of rcbs dies from about 1990. No problems loading .314 dia boolits. Frank

Lee dies with expander from a .303 dies .313 gas checked unsized or .312 sized. Use lee universal expander to bell case. And finally light crimp with lee factory crimp die.

I got RCBS 7.62x39 dies and I had only a 308 expander, a call to RCBS, and they sent me an entire 311 expander assembly, no charge. This was when they sold their Reloader Special dies.

Their normal die sets always came with both expanders for the Russian cartridges to my knowledge, or at least have for some time.
