It looks like I may be getting a new to me S&W 41 magnum soon, so I am starting my search for a bullet mould now. My experiance with 1980's S&W's is that they often have large throats running up to .004" over bore dia. so I am asking those that have been down that road which moulds they have used that will cast on the large side. I won't know until I get my hands on it just what the measurements will be but would like to hear what other casters are using.

Anyone have the Saeco 410?

Thanks in advance!

Some one reccomended the LBT moulds to me. I slugged the bore and chamber throats of my M57. I had one chamber a bit large so I ordered a mould that would fit that hole using 20:1 alloy. LBT delivered, in about 3 weeks, a 250 grain 2 holer that is the easiest casting mould I own and the bullets are absolutely spot on for dimension. Bullets fall out of the mould without persuasion when up to casting temperature. This mould is a fast casting mould and likes a high temperature so when casting with it, it is the only mould in play. Accuracy is good to excellent over 15 gr. of 2400. It is better when I increase the charge but I don't care for the recoil. The performance of that heavy slug is very impressive.

As I don't have the 410459, I'll have to endorse the RCBS 41-210, also the SAECO #411 is a good choice in a slightly heavier boolit.

410459 will show up on u know where from time to time -- they had one earlier this week-- you could barrow one --run some off and see - look on the bullet swap and ask- do watch the u know where and another one will likely come up

I have the Lee .410 Tumble Lube mold and it will throw boolits made with WW at .412. I tumble lube them and don't size, they shoot well with Unique. Oh yeah, they are 215gr.

GLynn41,

That is a fine looking boolit! Can you share the wt, model, etc?

Thanks,

Tristan

Has anyone got a picture of the 410459 Lyman bullet they could post? I can't seem to locate a picture of one.

"Hard to beat the Lyman 410459"

I agree - thus far, the best bullet in .41

Thanks for posting a picture Throwback! That boolit looks a lot like the 429421 Keith type I cast for the 29. I like the single large grease groove too. Thanks again!

Now to find one.

That Mountain mould boolit looks plenty heavy to me, I might not like the recoil at magnum velocities, but the boolit looks real nice!

Hay my 410459 looks different than that( a little) when i figure Out what I am doing wrong I will put mine up--as to my MM it has a .400 nose-- a step on the shank for crimping on GC -- although it shoots about as well with out as with - meplat .81 or .330, cast out at .411 and weight is 255 gr. what else you want to know? and it will shoot just fine to at least 100 yards beyond that do not know but my .41s have only 2x scopes so that is far enough -- only taken a couple of deer with it but it is ruff on deer at under 40yards -- i hunt a swamp

NEI 411-220, couldn't find a 410459 when I got my first 41, so I bought this, it has a square grease groove and a wider meplat and appears to be true Keith through and through, shoots great in two 657's I have, now I really like the look of Glynn41's boolit design and I've been fooling with the mm design myself working on a similiar design, haven't pulled the trigger on it yet as I haven't decided whether to check it or not.

Good morning all!! I am a 41 nut and have the 410 saeco and it is my favorite production mold hands down! I also have lyman lee molds. I have shot out three ruger blackhawks with this mold. It casts perfect boolits and they are tack drivers, I run them very hot with H110, no leading with range lead. I am waiting on an LBT 265 grn Keith style that should be very fun to shoot. I lent my Saeco to a friend for his smith and now he don't want to give it back!

I just got in from casting a bunch of 41 boolits using a new Saeco 410 mould. What diameter are you guys sizing to?

Throwback
03-26-2009, 08:41 PM
I size the bullet so that I can just push it through the cylinder throats with a dowel. That will vary from .410 to as much as .413. My Ruger BH is tight.

737, I do not size them as they are coming out mostly @ .4105-412 depending on hardness (Saeco 410) I will be returning the mold when I have 2000 boolits; I'm at 1500. Now on the 410459, I have used many molds (including Glynn's LBT) and this mold just spits them out (thanks Bullshop); they unfortunately are leaving the mold @ .412, but that is okay as I am using 8 Grns Unique and they are very accurate in the S&W 57. I have both the 410459 and an LBT 260gr WLN. My Ruger BH shoots them both very well. Had a Smith 57 4" that loved cast bullets, of any weight, 210 to the Penn 295. Wish I had not traded that one off.

I just got a new to me 57 that was a safe queen (it is like new!) and have cast up some Saeco 410's that I loaded over 8 grs. of Unique for the first try out. Using WW alloy I was getting .412" with cylinder throats that now measure .411". I have another Lyman mould that I can't remember the number on and can't seem to find a listing for but it is not a 410459. I will let you all know how it works out.
