How do you measure your cast, with what and how? Parallel to and perpendicular to the part line? length, width or both? Calipers or micrometers?

Micrometer, 0.0001" resolution. 90 degrees to the parting line and also just close to the PL. Don't measure on it. Depending on alloy and if they're WD'd or not, it's best to wait a bit until they've stabilized some.

You can use a caliper if you have a standard to measure against that's close to the boolit to check against, say a .300 standard for .25-.35 cals and a larger one for the .35-45 cals. You have to know your style of "feel" on the tool, same as a mic and be very consistent. A mic is generally better, but if all you have is a caliper....lots of fine tools built with them.

As BA stated, across from the parting line, and again right next to it. Don't bother measuring the parting line, it will always be bigger. Sometimes ALOT bigger!
