Okay fella's,

I slugged the bore of my Win. Model 94 Big Bore in .375 Winchester. Here are the numbers:
Bore Diameter: .367 Groove Diameter .3775" Throat Length: .179"

My question is this- With the .3775 groove diameter, will a normal Lyman 375449 or 375248 drop a bullet that fills the grooves? Or, should I be worried over .0025"? I am "in" on the Group Buy for the .375 six banger. I cast straight WW's, but I could harden the alloy if I have to.

Thanks!

I would size the bullet just under the throat dia. My BB is .3802 and I use a .379 to .380 dia bullet. My bore is .377. Do make sure that you are seating the bullet out to max OAL to get the bullet in the throat. I treat my 375BB more like a 38-55 so hardness is not an issue. I also use current manufacture 38-55 brass(2.08?).

Can't tell you about the 449, but my Lyman 375248 casts WW at about .378" and 246 grains as cast. My RCBS 37-250 casts WW about .377-.3775 and wt is 262 gr for around 268 grains ready to shoot. Saeco 638 casts WW at .382-.383 and about 220 grains. I shoot the RCBS basically unsized as I seat the checks with a .379 sizer and it seems to work. My problem is I have a Marlin 375 and the throat is a mile long. Only way I could seat close to the rifling is to shoot a wadcutter! If you want to try any of these boolits pm me and I'll send you some. Regards, Woody

Thanks guys, this is really helpful. I am getting itchy on wanting a mold for this rifle. I wonder why Marlin would give their rifles such a deep throat :o ?
Finally, how do your rifle's work shooting boolits minus a gas check?
