So I hear pewter is a good way to get tin if you don't have many radiator shops near. Well I went to the Goodwill near me, bought a few pieces of what looked like tarnished pewter. Got hold, threw it all in the Lee furnace. No dice. Seem like everything I found that might be pewter was from India, which makes me scared might just be pewter dipped brass. Help me out here before I spend anymore money on stuff I can't use

I use 95/5 non-lead solder available from any home repair/builder store, or farm supply store. This is 95% tin, 5% antimony solder. About 8 bucks a half pound spool.

Thats nice and its got the added benefit of being measurable but hear you can get tin for as low as .50 a pound if you do pewter.
I bought 25lbs of 63/37 SN/PB solder from ebaY yesterday for $62 shipped.
The same guy is selling another 25lb lot for $25 + $12 shipping, but I chickened out and just did his $50 buy it now price.
