I'm looking for any loading data for .45 ACP/AUTO RIM using the SPEER .45 COLT shot caps. This is for my numerous ACP revolvers which I like to carry on walks in the woods because it is so quick and easy to change what you have chambered.

I love me some full moon clips!!!!

I need some Cotton-Mouth Medicine and have about 33 lbs. of Nickel Plated Number 8 for superior penetration.

No. 13 is the latest Speer Manual I have and they don't have ANY 45 COLT or ACP loads for the shot caps.

Anyone?

Thanks in advance.....

I fooled around 20+ years ago with an rCBS form die that turned .308 win into a .45 acp shot shell. You cut the .308 case back to about half it's length. Sent it through a form die. Then added primer, powder and an over powder card (wad). Added shot, another card, some sealant, and you had a shot ctg.

I found through testing on targets as well as a few rattlers that #9's seemed to work best. A few years later also found out that the SPEER factory loaded shot ctg's worked FAR better. Or at least they appeared to.

There have been articles in the HANDLOADER magazine ref making shot ctg's. I think Mike Venturino did the article. If I can find it I'll PM you.

I may have 20 or 30 of the reformed cases IF You do decide to try the reform die method. I'd be happy to forward them.

I too have done a bit of testing with the rcbs form dies. I was cutting down 410 wads to 3/4 inch and using a 375 gas check for a over shot card. They worked well and will cycle a 1911 once you get the charge tuned to the gun. They are a bit of work to make, but they work very well for me.

I have a copy of the handloader article form 70's or 80's that I used for the reformed brass. Send a pm if you want some of that info.

Speer #14 has the following .45 COLT shot capsule loads. They call the loaded weight of the capsule ~150 grains.

Unique 7.5 975
W231 6.9 925
TiteGroup 5.7 920
700-X 5.5 915
Bullseye 5.5 875

Everyone makes an occasional typo so be ALERT! God knows we need more Lerts.

One more time: .45 COLT

It WAS neat when I typed it in, the proportional spacing bit me.

1950Target, I don't shoot any auto cartridges, but have played around with .38 and .45 Colt with bird shot. The take home point from me, is don't try to go fast. Stick to < 1000 fps loads or the patterns start looking like donuts. Also the patterns are thin to say the least, so smaller shot is better. I do have some 8s loaded in both .38s and .45 Colts, they do ok for about 2 paces, after that I doubt I'd land more than 1 or 2 BBs on a snake.
