You did say accurate, so my most accurate load is 35gr of IMR-3031. The chronographed velocities are very consistent - right around 1950 fps with the 200gr boolit.

You can work your way up to 39 grs and a velocity of 2200 fps and see where your "sweet spot" is.

Is that IMR4895? RCBS cast manual just doesn't list that many loads. Thanks Tim

Since IMR is now made and marketed by Hodgdon it probably doesn't matter. However, since you'll be working up loads and considering the usual lot to lot variation it's a coin toss. I have used both for years and the only real difference is the smaller kernaled H4895 throws more accurately (not that much to really get excited about unless your loading match grade loades). The H4895 has been my choice the last several years as it is an "Extreme" powder and less temp sensitive than the IMR has been. Again though this may be negated with hodgdon making and marketing both powders now.

Just get either one and work up your load starting at 36 gr and work up in 1/2 gr increments to 38 gr. Use 10 shot strings for a little more consistancy of results. Clean the barrel between strings. Just loading the 37 gr will probably shoot ok but much of the fun is in the working up a particular load for a particular rifle.

PS; since posting the above I have recieved info that the "new" IMR4895 sold under Hodgdon's label is made in Canada. The Extreme H4895 is made in Austrailia. Obviously they are not the same. My source also says he's found a considerable difference between the two powders in the .35R. Thus my above advice to work up the load with either powder holds true. Please do that. I had thought of deleting my post but since some have probably already read it I will just add the correction. My load of 37 gr H4895 is still a good load but should be worked up to like all other loads.

I worked up to 39 gr. H335 with the RCBS 35-200 for my Model 93 Mauser. I use a tuft of kapok fill to prevent gas cutting. The load is accurate and deadly in my rifle, but it's 2 grains above Hodgdon max, so it may be too much for Remington semi-autos and Marlins. As always, work up carefully.
