How is everyones experiences been with beagled rifle bullets as far as grouping goes. I've got a SAECO 071 and the nose needs about .002 larger to have a good press in fit on my BBL. and I would like 2 MOA out of this mold

Wayne, I can't say how a beagled boolit would compare with an identical one of the same but perfectly circular diameter, but a beagled bore rider that fits will shoot rings around an undersized one. It doesn't seem to hurt if you go over bore diameter in order to fit an eroded throat, either. My XP 7BR shoots 2 MOA with a boolit that is beagled .003" with aluminum flue tape. It is a very tight fit in the bore at the muzzle.

Dont worry about a slightly out of round bullet. Time you shove it down the barrel with 20 or 30 thousand pounds of pressure behind it, I will bet it exits round!

I shoot a lee 312 -185 thats beagled 2 thou. and shoots quite well in several rifles.

What's a 'beagled' boolit. I've cast and shot my own creations for almost 50 yrs now and that's a term I've never encountered. Thanks in advance, Rodfac

It is a way of making the mold drop bigger boolits by shimming it open slightly with metal tape. The aluminum duct tape I use increases diameter .001" and the flue tape .003". This is perpendicular to the mold face of course.

As any elliptical tendency from Beagling is the same on both sides of the boolit then it doesn't effect its accuracy potential.

Thanks guys...haven't tried that. I've got a .38-40 Marlin '89 vintage rifle that has the typical oversize Marlin bore. It's ok with very low velocity cast boolits but this 'beagling' technique gives me a cpl more opportunities to sort it all out. Thanks. Anyone know where the word 'beagling' comes from in the context of this usage? Regards, Rodfac
