I will be getting about 150lbs of divers belt lead - it is apparently pure lead. I can alloy it with wheel weights and/or linotype to harden it up. What formula should I use to get it to about Lyman #2 or some other hard alloy? I usually cast with 5lbs ww to 1 lb of linotype. That is supposedly Lyman #2.

You may be getting wheel weights in the dive belt. I have to compete with divers at a couple of tire shop for used wheel weights.

Apparently this is pure lead. How can I harden it up with ww and/or linotype?

FISH$BUGS---"Apparently this is pure lead---how can I harden it up with ww's and or linotype?" Easy, just melt them together.

Maybe I have been doing something wrong all these years but this is the way I figure hardness. For example 5 # WW = bhn 12 times 5 =60+1 # lino bhn 22 = 60 +22 = 82. 82 devided by 6 = bhn 12. If you want Ly #2 using straight lead you will need a lot of lino. A little chilled shot added to ww and water dropped would give you a Ly #2 with a litle experimenting. ben1025

My division is a little off 82 devided by 6 should be little over bhn 13 1/2 ben1025

Carpetman - was one of those ribbons for bad humor? I was asking for the formula to mix pure lead with ww and/or linotype to harden it up to Lyman #2. But I think you knew that.
