David,

I am assuming that it is "standing" offhand no slings. Correct?

Not this time. Just you and Da gun.

If you have to use a sling, just note it. The idea is to get out and shoot.

I'll try to get all types in.

Next is going to be bench rest.....100 yards.

Always open to suggestions.

Sir,

I plan on shooting some this coming weekend, do you want my best 2 targets, or do you want all of them I shoot?

Sir,

I plan on shooting some this coming weekend, do you want my best 2 targets, or do you want all of them I shoot?

:) No Sir here. :)

Your best would be fine, just shoot.

I will probably take pics of the targets that get mailed to me and post them here unless the shooter sez other wise. You can post them here too.

I may get out on Sunday. It was 58 today, but I had to work. Then I thought I had tomorrow (saturday) off, but too much stuff came in to my shop.

We got till the end of April.

Remember, enter early, Enter often.

David :)

Good luck!

I guess that would be like duct tape, it has a dark side and a light side :kidding:

Nothing but pouring rain yesterday. Today I can go if I wear my big yellow construction boots.

OK folks. I went out and shot.

1917 Winchester Enfield. Not in military form, but barreled action is stock.
Group buy 311407 mold, 13.5 grains Promo (red dot). Issue sights set on 600 and 700 yards.

OK here come the excuses!

33*f, wind at my back. Shot 10 .... Only 8 holes. Put in 2 more, now 9 holes.
Packed up my stuff and went back to work. After getting home, I found action screws loose. Blue loctite applied. going to give another try. I am taking my self out of the competition, but will continue to post targets.

Enter early enter often. :)

I don't see why you have to DQ yourself. We are all going to have targets we don't send in. Why should you be different just because you already have the bad ones in hand?

I have a day off work tomorrow, decent weather forecast and I put it on the calendar as a shooting day weeks ago, so SWMBO hasn't scheduled anything over it.:) I'll be taking my 1894C and a couple boxes of SAECO #353 over 10.5 of 2400. I should have an entry by the end of the day.

Snip

You don't understand. I have been away for a long time. Its more important to shoot than the score. I NEEDED this. I have been working like a fool with no time off. Now I have a little time to shoot and daym it feels good. Score is not important, just getting out there. More people need to get out there.

Just sending lead down range is all I need. I will run the match and post the targets for those that mail them in. Its all in fun.

Maybe I will enter the Bench Rest match for march......

Just back from the range. Got a decent effort to send.:)

You want I should post a scan or do you want to save them for the grand finale?

David R
03-14-2009, 08:03 AM
Just post them please. It saves me and you time. We have another month.

You already won, you took the time to shoot. Everybody wins :)

Final best score is just for bragging rights.

I hope to play kitchen table gunsmith and give it another go with the enfield today.

OK then...
Gun is a Marlin 1894C .357 Magnum. It wears a WGRS rear and the front bead is filed off to a square post. Boolit is a 180 grain SAECO #353 cast of air cooled range scrap and sized .359 with Lars Carnauba Red. The charge is 10.5 grains of 2400 over a Winchester standard small pistol primer in PMC cases. Previous chronograph data has this load going 1,349 fps average.

Here's my best offhand effort from Friday. My overlay says the close ones all broke for an 89. I may get out to shoot again before time runs out, so I think I'll hold on to it for a while and see if I can get a better target for the official scoring.

http://home.comcast.net/~imashooter2/pictures/50yd1.JPG

After playing with handguns in the pit for a few hours, my bud went home and I wandered back to 50 to shoot a few more. I was getting tired and it was clear things were getting worse, not better. So I rested my front hand against a post and shot this cheater. Even with the forward support I tossed two wide ones. But the 5 shot cluster on the edge of the ten ring made me happy.

That is what its all about.

I went out with the enfield again and could not get 10 on the paper for anything.

SO I got out my wally world stevens 308 with a scope.

Load is 311644 The new fangled boolit by lyman that has a taper to fit the throat. It does. Lube Lars carnuba red, 46 grains of surplus WC860. It took me 3 targets to finally get what I was looking for. AV about 1600 fps.

12217

I made a sight adjustment after the first 5 shots up and right a few clicks.

It was a great day to shoot. A few people at the range, but they were all safe shooters. Femech from her was there too shooting his lever action 357. I had a target up for him, but he declined.... Bummer, the guy is a good shot. After that, he had a a 5" swinger at 50 yards. He shot at it with his rifle and I shot at with the 357 peestol. We had a blast. Nuttin but lead.

I printed one of these targets, then took it to work and put it in the laser jet for 25 more. Might need to do that again.

Going to try again with the enfield. It will do it, but apparently I can't.

Keep at it folks. I have had a few PMs asking for my address. We still have 6 weeks.

I have not shot much lately, but its coming back.... Like falling off a bicycle.

Imashooter2, that is an 89 1X!

Managed to get out today and brought ammo that chambered this time. Rifle is a Rem 700 in 30-06 with 3-9 Redfield (set at 6X for the shooting). Load is 311041 sized to .3088, 20gr of 2400.

Had (20) rounds so I fired for (2) targets. First shot out of the box was out in the white for a 7. Managed to put everything else in the black for a 90 on the first target and then a 93 on the second target.

Went home and loaded (20) more rounds. Looking forward to shooting a few more times for this match. Thanks Dave.

3 targets arrived today from BPCR Bill. He scored em, but I do it different.

Best target is 93 1x. 93 0x and a 92 1x

Bill used the X as 25. What do you guys think?

He shot a 38-55 Hiwall
Feecker 15x target scope
Lyman 375248 250 gr cast 20:1
SPG lube
42 grains Swiss 1 1/2 F

Good shooting Bill

If you want me to post the target, please let me know.

Looks like he has slughammer by ONE X. Try again slug..... :)

Well Bill, you are still in the lead! If you do win I will post the target anyhow.

I am going to run this to the end of April like I said, but the bench rest match starts April fools day and ends the last day of the month. I can't wait any longer. I was practicing for it today.

I will post a new thread soon.

Doing a bathroom remodel this last week, but today I had enough time to go the range and shoot 2 targets. First target was all in the black (just dumb and happy pull the trigger and hit the black), the score was pretty poor though; managed to dance around in the 8 and 9 ring for (9) of those shots so the score was only an 85. Next target I decided I should be more specific than just hitting the black so I aimed for the 10 ring. Dropped (2) 8's on that target though and the final score is another 93. (Better luck next week after I load another (20) rounds of ammo). Same load and gun as last time.

Does any one else ever go shooting? I think its a great thing to do...

I tightened the stock and cleaned the barrel on the enfield. I gave it another try with a different load. 60 grains of WC 860 and 311466 lubed with carnuba red.

You folks score it :)

Where are all those guys with lever action guns and 45/70?

Slughammer, you need at least 80 more brass!

Slughammer has plenty of brass. He just doesn't have the time to load more than 20 at a stretch. :)

David, I'm in the middle of getting loads done for a 3 day Schuetzenfest next weekend, and right now it looks like my dream load is a duplex for that 38-55. 3 grains of IMR 4227 and 35 grains of Schuetzen 2F, large pistol primer, Lyman 375248 cast 20:1 and pan lubed. Expect to see more targets posted before the end of April, both offhand and bench.:drinks:

Good afternoon
This is what I could do with my Winny 44-40.
Load is my standard 8 grains Unique with a Saeco 443 220 grain soft lead boolit.

Question was asked about sights... Front is a brass blade I made. Rear is a folding Winchester sight.

Thanks for entering.

Got out today and shot 15 targets trying to better my score. Not a single one was even close. Ever have that day shooting when you're just off a little bit? I took my time, squeezed them off nice, felt really good about things. Then I went down and looked at the paper...

Oh well. It beat mowing the lawn.:)

Imashooter2, the target you sent is here. 5". 9 in 4".
