Just ordered a new blued Colt Govt. 'XSE' model in 45acp.
Price is AU$2,270.00 ,... a wait of up to 9 mths, ....& 50% deposit up front......
I have read mixed reports about today's Colts.
Does anyone have any experience with these newer pistols?
Good or Bad ?

colt makes a fine gun. I rate them near the top of the 1911s. Some guys will tell you your paying for a name but i think everyone thats into 1911s should have at least one with a horse on it!!!

A friend has had an XSE for several years, it has been just fine. It is not as
well fitted as current Dan Wesson 1911s, but is much better than some of the
'bad old days' Colts. Good features, well made, well fitted very good example
of the 1911 genre. They sure are expensive over there.

Can you get the Dan Wesson Pointman Seven or the Valor? These are absolutely
the finest 1911s that I have ever seen offered as production. In the mid
1980s you would send a $600 new Colt to one of the top gunsmiths and add $1600 or more
and wait 6 mo to a year to get a gun that was MAYBE this good. Really.

I have nothing to do with CZ other than knowing some of the people that
work there and owning a Ptman 7 for about 1.5 yrs. I needed another 1911
like I needed a hole in the head, but just couldn't stand it after about 8 months of
fondling in the local gunshop. Every one I have seen, handled or heard anything
about in the last 2 years has been literally perfectly fitted. I have no idea how
they can hit the price point with what is a hand fitted custom 1911. The only issue
I had was that the throat was very tight (target chamber & throat) and I had to
start seating my std .45ACP SWC load 0.010" deeper). I have shot <1" groups
at 25 yds several times with 452460 over 3.5gr Titegroup and Starline brass.
