Checking through the gun store's box of used molds came up with a Lyman 287405 DC mold.
Looks good ( one cavity has a small scratch on the bollit nose), for the princely sum of $20.00 !!!! The H&I set cost $29 (!!!) now I need some 7mm gas checks. (and a 6.5/22/380 mold and h and i dies, does it ever end??)

I'm happy that though i would share.

Has anyone used this boollis? Any results ?/

I've used it in a couple barrels from 7tcu to .280 remington. In MY alloy and mold it drops a bit more than 150 grains, add GC & lube it weighs close to 160. It is good once you find the recipe it likes.I got some fantastic groups with it in the .280. It did great for deer in the 708, and in the 7tcu contender i killed a few ground hogs at 100 to 150 yards! (missed a FEW also)[;<)

Twotrees, I've been looking a couple of years for a copy of that mould. Ya done real good. If it casts at .288 or larger I'd like to acquire a few if I could...Ray

I picked up a #287405 off ebay last fall. Mine cast a .285 boolit. Plenty fat for me since my plan is to size them down for my 270 Win. Rifle is a Weatherby with the long free bore. Though the Loverin design may be handy to reach out to the rifling and the magazine I'm sure is plenty long enough. Need to load some up as it's almost springtime.

I payed lots more than $22 for mine.

What struck me as odd was finding the 7mm takes a smaller gas check than the 270. So I suppose I could beagle this mold out and if the gas checks got tight just use 270 checks.

Just looked it up and a 270 is supposed to have a .253” check shank while 7mm is .251”.
I don't have any Hornady 7mm but have Gator 7mm and some old Hornady 270 checks. The Gator 7mm's dot fit to well over my 270 bullets while the 270 checks will. But with .002” difference manufacturing tolerance would overlap. The whole 270 caliber is goofy to start with. Bumping down the 7mm by .003” is almost as silly as some of the “new” cartridges coming out of late.

If Hornady makes them all on the big side now that may explain why they don't stock the 270 checks anymore.
