View Full Version : Wrap pushing off when sizing

I have tried several PP on .312 cast boolits, 2 wraps bringing it up to .318 and then using Lee push thru' to .314.
I put a dab of LLA on the paper and then sized..but in most cases it pushed the paper off all together or slid it down the boolit somewhat.
What am I doing wrong ?
Thanks,
Mike

Sounds like the patch is not shrinking around the bullet enough. Try wetting your patches more before applying them.

I have found LLA is draggy.
Try Auto Wax, or JPW. Just a little. I have found too much produces the result you experienced.
Also, TIGHTER patches.

Size the naked bullets to .308", then wrap the patches on.

I've got to go along with MC on this one. Boolits should be sized or cast proper size prior to patching and if you must size after patching I would think that it would be done base first in a lube sizer with an appropriate nose punch.

You know, I missed that point.
Like duh on my part.
I size my .314 patched castings to .308 before wrapping to .317-.318. When it is dry, I dab JPW on the patch and it sizes real easily.
I deliberately mold larger than the first sizing to get sharp edges on the lube lands.

Dont think so. I use linotype for high velocity shooting, and it works fine.

I have zinc blended in with mine.
They work real well.

just for kickes and giggles i tried wrapping a 200grn lee boolit in notebook paper about 3 times(i wasnt exact just messin around) and running it through my 308 sizer die it actually worked just fine i just kinda rolled the paper on i didn't wet it or anything miked out right at .308 i did try one with a GC but it cut the paper off does .6" sound about right for the width of a 308 pp?
