So, I've been wanting to find a mold for cloning the Rim Rock 158gr SWCHP used by Buffalo Bore for their 1050fps in 2" barrel FBI Load. Brian Pearce provided load data to clone this load using 6.3gr of Power Pistol back in 2012. Well, a close to clone load, it's at 1004fps in a LCR.

The Rim Rock bullet used by Pearce is this: https://rimrockbullets.com/xcart/g-ch-38-357-158-gr-swc-hp-per-100-in-a-plastic-ammo-box.html

I've looked at just buying the bullets, but man are they proud of those buggers. $50/100, plus another $22 shipping. For $72 shipped to my door it is almost as cheap in this market to just buy the loaded ammo. But considering I'd like to train with what I carry, making a clone of this load is VERY desireable. The problem is I've yet to find something that is a clone. 158gr SWC HP with a Gascheck. NOE has some that seem similar, but they're obviously never in stock. I honestly don't know why I bother looking at Al's sight any more, he never has the molds that one would prefer to buy in stock.

Does anyone have any info on which bullet design Rim Rock uses?

I have no idea if this is the bullet that Rimrock uses. I cast the plain base version of this bullet and powder coat them and shoot them at very high velocity and it is very accurate.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240913/32f67b268491c934fe3579be02d248de.jpg

Would these work for practice loads?

Both of those are basically the same. The HP profile on the MP is different from the Rim Rock, and is slightly heavier. The second doesn’t have the GC, but the HP profile might be more similar. It’s hard to say.

I’m thinking the MP is probably going to be my best bet, but it isn’t quite the same design. Considering this is a ragged edge load, I’m thinking maybe just drop the charge a bit…

Nope. That one doesn’t have a GC. There is a similar one listed on the website with a GC, but it’s out of stock. And I’m not even going to bother sending him an email. He’s ignored the last few I’ve sent asking about future availability of molds. I like Al’s molds. But he has zero communication….

After looking at the Rim Rock bullets a little closer, they’re actually not very similar to a Keith design in the nose from what I can tell.

Well,...I WAS going to provide you the link for the gaschecked Hi-Tek 158grn LSWCHP product Straight Shooters out of West Virginia offered. But their website is down. Upon checking in on their Facebook page, I see they called it quits just after the 4th of July. [smilie=b::killingpc:( Dang, I like that product.

I haven’t seen that one, but presume it was a good one since you like it so much.

Sad to see small businesses go bottoms up…

It turns out They still have some stock on hand that they are disposing of via GunBroker. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1064414676 for the 500 count and https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1064414698 for the 100 count packages. 330538

That actually looks like the same bullet as the Rim Rock bullets. I wish I could figure out what mold this is. Those are definitely more affordable than the Rim Rock version. But they are still more expensive than casting myself.

I found a better photo of the Rim Rock for comparison. I'm pretty sure they're from the same mold... Now to just find out what that mold is...
