You know somthing that surprises be a lil is molds dont end up getting cool nicknames. I mean you have a lot of them that are kinda iconic and loved but no one ever has named them . I mean you have a few like the Keith bullets or pope bullets but that's it. Surprised you don't have like the
"match master " "bear thumper" or something.. would be a lot easier to remember and know what the heck people are talking about vs the small math equation your usually given when asking about a mold [emoji23]

I call my RCBS SWC .45ACP mold 'that stumpy looking little wadcutter'.

There are a few Lee bullets like the 22 Bator, or the Soup Can bullet. The Cast Bullet Assn has had articles submitted where the author refers to a bullet followed with BOWM or something like that. It seems a lot easier to refer to a bullet as an H&G 68 Clone which basically tells everyone that this bullet is historically accurate in 1911 Colt and others of same type and weight is usually 200 grains. When someone refers to a bullet by the makers part number, I ignore the rest because it is not worth the time to look it up, at least to me. We all have our preferences, some of us just like to keep it clear and simple.

Who could remember all the names that would be needed. How many hundreds of molds are there? How many would have regional variations? That would be confusing in the extreme.

Cruise Missile, XCB to name a couple. There have been some others with names but I've forgotten most. Some by designer. Already mentioned is Pope and Keith. Ranch Dog, Hoch, Eagan, Minie, Sharps, etc.

Most are 'famous' just by their mold number, 311299, 165SIL, etc with no need for a name.

Same as jacketed bullets. Some get names, most don't. The Flying Ashtray comes to mind.

I guess the real issue is that most designs are just a small tweak different than what is already out there. Rarely is there a design that is truly worthy of a name.

That would be like me at a party: "Bob? no. . .Jim? . . .Rick?. . .Steve?. . .Phil? YEAH! PHIIIILLLL!"

Followed immediately by whispering to somebody I actually know: "Who in the HELL was that guy?"

What you do in private with your molds is best kept unsaid...

Or...this could go the same way fishing flies has gone. EVERY little variation has it's own name, even though there are 10 others just like it. Change from one type of thread to another and it gets a new name. Or change from silver wire to gold wire. Exhausting.

I have a one I call "useless" and another "pain in the rear (or something like that)" but the rest are called by size...

you mention Keith and Pope, but let's not forget Thompson, Bator, and Loverin...in regards to names of designers known for a specific design.
As to boolit names, there is the Hammer, Cruise Missile, Karbiner, Soup Can, Sil(short for silhouette)...I suspect there are others?

I have on occasion attached "personalities" and "feelings" to my inanimate toys, but most of the time no names (I haven't used my 9mm/357 mold for a while and I think he feels missed). Anthropomorphize...

I always liked the .359 "Hammer" from MP molds. I also seem to recall something nicknamed "Hammer of Thor" I think from back in the old Lee group buy days.

I thought that name went with the Ideal 62-560. I could be wrong but mine sure feels like it in my SS .45-90.

What I find is that the bullet numbers start showing up as passwords, lock combinations and other similar. When learned you're never going to forget the classic Keith bullets and similar ones.

Back in the Golden Years of the Single Shot, in addition to Pope and Postee that have already been mentioned, there were a couple more like the Hudson and French (named for WH French, not the country). I believe there were a couple of others in the rifle bullet category as well as a few more pistol bullets whose names I’m forgetting. Wasn’t there a Hinmann wadcutter design?
